CLIMAX

Band:BEASTMILK
Album:CLIMAX
Label:SVART
Format:CD
Genre:Post Punk

"Apocalyptic visions and a wicked sense of humor populate audio nightmares as Beastmilk create visceral, unsettling death rock for the elite", wrote Pitchfork of the band whose highly anticipated debut album poignantly combines haunting clean vocals, darkly shimmering melodies, and a throbbing rhythmic pulse to create an atmospheric yet energetic journey into post-punk's past, present, and definitely its future..."

"Elements of a gloomier Joy Division, an angrier Echo & The Bunnymen, a medicated Killing Joke, and even a lush layering of Peter Murphy" - all this, and vastly more, describes the immediately memorable 3D darkness of Beastmilk. Born in 2010 during a nuclear winter in Helsinki, Finland, the void-mothers of Beastmilk kick out an irradiated dust of what they appropriately dub "apocalyptic post-punk." Their debut demo, White Stains On Black Tape, sold out quickly and earned the attention of Darkthrone's Fenriz, who made it one of his favorites of 2010.

In June 2013, they flew out to Boston, USA to record at GodCity Studio with the legendary Kurt Ballou (Converge), who produced their debut full-length album, Climax; the members of Converge found Beastmilk online, loved them, and ordered both their 7"s, with Ballou soon offering to produce their debut album at his world-famous studio. The result is Climax, an album of dark, driving anthems that work their magic instantly upon the first notes - fall in with the fallout and get down with BEASTMILK!

SI SAUVAGE

Band:THE SUBURBS
Album:SI SAUVAGE
Label:BURNSIDE
Format:CD
Genre:Alt Rock

Some 35 years ago, The Suburbs were the very first act signed to the (now) legendary Twin/Tone label in Minneapolis/St. Paul. As their career blossomed, they were later signed to both Mercury and A & M Records. As happens, they went on hiatus, put out a Greatest Hits album, played the occasional reunion show, had lineup changes and now, regrouping, have their first new album in over two and a half decades, Si Sauvage. This is not just another trip down memory lane but a vital new album of songs by a band who can (and does) still deliver.

"The Minneapolis new wave punk outfit maintains it quirky spunk and funky pop energy." -The New Yorker

1st band signed to legendary Minneapolis rock label Twin Tone, also home to The Replacements, The Jayhawks and Soul Asylums' early recordings. This is their 13th record having successfully recorded for Mercury and A&M.

IN CONCERT

Band:MOS GENERATOR
Album:IN CONCERT
Label:ROADBURN
Format:VINYL LP
Genre:Stoner/Doom/Occult/Sludge Metal

Mos Generator “In Concert” captures the band in a high pressure live situation. “We were opening for Saint Vitus on that tour and every night we had to go out and prove ourselves. On the night of this recording we had a very tough audience. I could tell by walking through the crowd before we went on that it was going to be a hard night. In situations like that we have a tendency to turn to each other for support on stage. As soon as we walked out we could feel the energy change, the people wanted into our circle. On the record you can hear it start as soon as we walk out. It was a great feeling and we ended up playing the show with two mindsets. The introvert and the extrovert. I was very surprised and pleased with the outcome”

VERY LTD VINYL LP !

ANCIENT WARLOCKS

Band:ANCIENT WARLOCKS
Album:ANCIENT WARLOCKS
Label:ROADBURN
Format:VINYL LP
Genre:Stoner/Doom/Occult/Sludge Metal

ANCIENT WARLOCKS are: Darren Chase ‐ whose solid rhythm guitar work and punk flavored delivery of Fuzz drive the riffs. Aaron Krause ‐ whose smoky vocal howl soars amongst his own blend of subtle lead guitar lines and swirling feedback psyche. Anthony ‘Oni’ Timm ‐ a dynamic and energetic bassist with thick, rolling grooves that belie his noise rock influence. Steve Jones ‐ whose veteran status, behind both the drums and the recording console, give him invaluable insight into keeping heads nodding and bodies moving to the grooves.

CROWS AND KITTIWAKES WHEEL AND COME AGAIN

Band:CONNECT ICUT
Album:CROWS AND KITTIWAKES WHEEL AND COME AGAIN
Label:AAGOO RECORDS
Format:CD
Genre:Avantgarde/Electronic

A new entry in the REV. Lab series is connect_icut’s Crows & Kittiwakes Wheel & Come Again. Connect_icut is an electronic music producer based in Vancouver, Canada. His releases include Moss (Dehausset CD, 2005), They Showed Me the Secret Beaches (CSAF LP, 2008) and Fourier's Algorithm (CSAF download, 2010). These albums have received a good deal of critical acclaim. Most notably, Secret Beaches was praised in Thurston Moore and Byron Coley's Arthur magazine column, as well as in The Wire, which commented that it was "(a)lways involving - and easily rewarding enough to make getting up and turning the record over an anticipatory pleasure." The music itself combines the disruptive "glitch" techniques of Oval with the melodic noise rock of My Bloody Valentine. It anchors all manner of chaotic abstraction in a solid foundation of three-chord pop. It is also fundamentally grounded in hands-on performance and spontaneous composition. Live connect_icut appearances have included support slots for a number of notable electronic artists including Oneohtrix Point Never and Loscil.

TERRA INCOGNITA

Band:KK NULL / ISRAEL MARTINEZ / LUMEN LAB
Album:TERRA INCOGNITA
Label:AAGOO RECORDS
Format:CD
Genre:Avantgarde/Electronic

These works are a collaboration between the Japanese figure of experimental electronic music, KK Null, and Mexican artists and brothers Israel and Diego Martinez.

Diego is best known as Lumen lab, and both are mentors of the label Abolipop -Suplex. The process started at the end of 2012 when Kazuyuki Kishino, based in Tokyo and Israel Martinez in Berlin, started to share electronic sounds and field recordings. They tried making new pieces exploring various approaches to composition such as the recording of improvisation sessions, the capturing of the soundscape and incorporating some electroacoustic computer processes. After several exchanges, Israel invited Lumen lab to participate in the project from Zapopan, Mexico. The two had not worked together since 2002 when Israel was part of Lumen lab. Sharing this experience with an early influential musician of the 90's electronic and experimental scene provided a good moment. The process of exchanging isolated sounds and then fragments of composi- tion continued. The three musicians worked using each others' lead. Eight months after moving back to Mexico, Israel together with Diego and Kazuyuki, finished four pieces called Incognita, now available on CD as an album. In addition, they composed work for a limited edition vinyl, Terra. It includes the first track of Incognita, which makes it especially appealing for vinyl collectors. The result of this collaboration shows the different profiles of the musicians, from the semi-rhythmic and powerful electronic dynamism of KK Null and Lumen lab to the deep drones and the convulsive field recording's treatment of Israel Martinez. Incognita and Terra Incognita are a celebration of sound as a bridge of communication between people of diverse geographies and generations, sharing respect for each other's work and their cultural context. Friendship, reflection and teamwork.
