THE WORD - VOLUME ONE - SHOWS 1-4

Band:VARIOUS ARTISTS
Album:THE WORD - VOLUME ONE - SHOWS 1-4
Label:GRUDGEFUL PRODUCTIONS
Format:DVD
Genre:Rock

The Word was a UK television programme that was broadcast on Channel 4 between 1990 and 1995. It was a magazine type format programme that included music, interviews and lifestyle features. Whilst the programme did have a high success rate with audiences particularly the younger audience moving into the 18-25 age bracket the show also attracted controversy. There were however many memorable moments contained within the programme in a musical sense and the show is credited with giving Nirvana their first international television exposure performing Smells Like Teen Spirit and also the first television exposure of Oasis performing Supersonic. There were many hosts of the programme but the anchor was journalist and broadcaster Terry Christian who stayed with the programme for its entire run. This DVD is part of a three DVD set of releases that contain some of the highlights from the five series which were broadcast between August 1990 and March 1995. The content actually stands up to scrutiny and as such it is easy to see why The Word became compelling viewing.

In Volume One you can relive such highlights as River Phoenix being interviewed by Amanda De Cadenet and Snoop Dogg’s experience with Rod Hull and Emu. Musical highlights include Oasis performing Supersonic and Nirvana performing Smells Like Teen Spirit for the first time on European TV. The individual DVDs also feature extensive notes by The Word presenter Terry Christian. This is the first time that these performances have been released commercially and as The Word commanded a large cult audience over its five year run there is a large and dedicated audience now waiting to buy these DVDs.

Includes - First ever TV appearance by Oasis • European TV debut of Nirvana • Plus appearances by L7, Primal Scream, Pulp, En Vogue, Arrested Development, Happy Mondays, Manic Street Preachers and Cypress Hill

VATTNET VISKAR

Band:VATTNET VISKAR
Album:VATTNET VISKAR
Label:BURNING WORLD
Format:CD
Genre:Black Metal

Brandon Stosuy, Pitchfork (7.9): "Of late, black metal in the United States-- however excellent it might have been-- has often hinged on headlines and talking points. But Vattnet Viskar has no manifesto with which to proselytize, no extreme ideology or infamy over which to bicker, and no yarn about life on the ol' Cascadian farm with which to allure. Sure, to an extent, they're vegan environmentalists from Plaistow, New Hampshire, a town so seemingly quaint that its official history includes a proud section about something called "The Deodorized Order of the Skunk" and another about how local Girl Scouts have "helped shape the moral and civic sensibilities of Plaistow girls for many decades." Aside from some surprisingly wide-eyed lyrics that explore general themes of existential nihilism and a desire to tear down antiquated systems and build anew, none of those concerns really become a factor here. Vattnet Viskar is simply a strong start from a band that has tapped into the current transmogrification of black metal and proclaimed-- quickly, restlessly, and enthusiastically-- that it has something to say about the process."

GIFTED

Band:THE JIGSAW SEEN
Album:GIFTED
Label:BURNSIDE
Format:CD
Genre:Psych/Garage

With their third album in two years, The Jigsaw Seen are back with a new one to add to their artistically ambitious canon. The Jigsaw Seen's previous releases, Bananas Foster (2010) and Winterland (2011), received great reviews, both charted on the CMJ Top 200 and received airplay worldwide. Gifted was mastered by distinguished recording engineer Peter Mew (The Beatles, Pink Floyd, David Bowie) at Abbey Road Studios in London. The Jigsaw Seen goes right for the gut as Open Up The Box Pandora kicks off the proceedings with the proto-garage crunch of Jonathan Lea’s tremolo guitar. Teddy Freese pounds out the gospel according to Bo Diddley, while Tom Currier’s bass weaves its way along, most inventively. As the mysterious contents of Pandora’s box are about to be unleashed on the world, Dennis Davison conjures up a primal harmonica wail to bring the opening declaration to its exciting conclusion - The Jigsaw Seen's previous releases, "Bananas Foster" (2010) and "Winterland" (2011), received great reviews from UNCUT (UK), The Sunday Times (UK), The Independent (UK), The Daily Mirror (UK), Blurt, Glide, Babysue, Big Takeover, Dagger, PopMatters, All Music, iTunes and many other publications and websites.

ON THE BLACKEST OF NIGHTS

Band:VOID MOON
Album:ON THE BLACKEST OF NIGHTS
Label:Cruz Del Sur
Format:CD
Genre:Stoner/Doom/Occult/Sludge Metal

Void Moon strikes a deadly blow with their debut album, "On the Blackest of Nights", proving once again that Sweden is a country where doom metal traditionally lives and prospers.

The roots of Void Moon's music are undoubtely deeply buried in the historic tradition of Metal, following the path drawn by the godfathers of doom (Black Sabbath and Candlemass above all); but Void Moon's atypical offer will also please fans of Solitude Aeternus and contemporary bands like Hammers of Misfortune and Grand Magus. An atmosphere of resigned pain and claustrophobic suffering flows on the entire work, finding its uttermost expression in songs such as the title track and the lamentous "Among the Dying"- with momentary outbursts of anger perfectly characterized by Jonas Gustavsson's vocal performance. Performed by musicians who are fans in the first place, "On the Blackest of Nights "represents a genuine and sincere offer to any lover of decadent and oppressive atmosphere of which Doom metal is about.

Void Moon was formed in early 2009 by bassist Peter Svensson and vocalist/guitarist Jonas Gustavsson along with drummer Thomas Hedlund. A first demo was released during the spring 2010, later released as a 4-track 7’’ EP entitled “Through the Gateway” 7” EP by the German label Metalbound Records. Following the release, Erika Wallberg joined the band as lead guitarist and in April 2011, a second demo was released, entitled "The Mourning Son".
