MILES AWAY

Band:HILDAMAY
Album:MILES AWAY
Label:A Wolf At Your Door Records
Format:CD
Genre:Alt Rock

Hildamay are the personification of success through sacrifice & their breathtaking debut album Miles Away is testament to this as front man Tim Lawrence explains; “I left a career in teaching to enable me to live in a sweaty, smelly van with my best mates and drive around playing shows. When handed an opportunity to do something you love doing you have to take it.” Miles Away is the stirring & heart straining sound of a band that have taken risks & the monumental highs & lows of being Miles Away from the ones they cherish.

Roughly a year since Hildamay delivered We Loved We Lost they have returned with their astonishing debut album Miles Away recorded with Oz Craggs of Feed The Rhino at Hidden Track Studios in Kent. It is evident from the outset that Miles Away has been crafted by individuals with varied & genre spanning influences. In stark comparison to the punk rock of We Loved, We Lost, this 12 track album is a thunderous & sensitive rock record. Hildamay have embraced the attack & force of post-hardcore legends Leatherface, Jawbox & Quicksand whilst combining elements of 90s grunge giving Miles Away a depth & diversity that maintains the listeners engagement throughout. However it is Hildamay’s ability to craft accessible & inviting hooks, in the vein of Deftones & Foo Fighters, which will see the record appeal to a wide range of music lovers.

August will see the band take to the tarmac once more as they tour the UK with Attention Thieves before closing a triumphant summer of festival performances which will have included Takedown, Redfest, Crash Doubt, Relentless Board Masters, Slam Dunk, main stage at Hit The Deck Festival & the BBC Introducing Stage at Reading & Leeds Festivals. It has been a fraught & troubled journey but Lawrence would not have it any other way; “I couldn't ask for anything more & even though most of the time I am penniless I wouldn't change it for the world.” Miles Away is an outstanding testimony to sacrifice & conviction & with this Hildamay continue their ascension to the fore front of the UK music community one mile at a time.

RITUAL OF PASSING

Band:ATRIARCH
Album:RITUAL OF PASSING
Label:Profound Lore
Format:CD
Genre:Black Metal

Portland, Oregon’s ATRIARCH, over the last few years since their formation and through several trials of finding their true sound, have already become recognized (even amongst publications such as Pitchfork and Decibel) as one of America’s most intriguing bands in the underground today. By conjuring a mesmerizing amalgamation of death rock, classic ’80s goth, along with doom and black metal respectively, ATRIARCH have finally found their sonic calling with their second full-length album “Ritual Of Passing”. While their “Forever The End” debut showed promise, the band were slowly still developing their sound which would blossom even more on the recent 12” vinyl split they did with their like-minded comrades in Alaric this past year (released on 20 Buck Spin). With their new album “Ritual Of Passing”, ATRIARCH’s promise shown on their debut (which was released last year, yet said songs on the debut being over two years old) has developed tenfold into one with more substance and depth, with a heavier sound, one that has made the band (a live band to also behold) into a force to be reckoned with within America’s underground heavy music scene.

Mirroring the sounds and aesthetics of such legendary bands as Bauhaus, Joy Division, Rudimentary Peni, early Cure, and Killing Joke, while incorporating the slightly more recent vibes of The Gault, Asunder, and Burzum, with “Ritual Of Passing” ATRIARCH have delivered one of the most stirring and mesmerizing releases of the year.

LONGING

Band:BELL WITCH
Album:LONGING
Label:Profound Lore
Format:CD
Genre:Stoner/Doom/Occult/Sludge Metal

Seattle’s BELL WITCH is an overbearing extreme doom metal duo that is only comprised of vocals, bass, and drums, that duo being bassist/vocalist Dylan Desmond (who is also the bass player in Seattle doom contingent SAMOTHRACE) and drummer/vocalist Adrian Guerra. The duo would make a huge impression within the doom metal scene with their self-titled demo, which became one of the most recognized demos within the doom metal since the PALLBEARER demo. With only the bare minimum at their disposal, Desmond and Guerra would utilize what instruments they had at hand to create some of the darkest, heaviest most-dismal time-stretching extreme doom in the scene today, and with their debut fulllength album “Longing”, they have just done that.

With a much all-encompassing sound, one that’s much heavy and sinister than their demo, “Longing” (which features guest vocals from Aerial Ruin’s Erik Moggridge on the track ‘Rows (of endless waves’) is a marathon-like exercise in extreme doom. One that does put one’s listening threshold to the test. But once engrossed in the overwhelming and emotionally draining sonic jaunt that is “Longing” (an album in which the band will also be very active on the live front for), then the listening experience becomes more enveloping and ultimately more obsessive.

For fans of ASUNDER, ALDEBARAN, and SAMOTHRACE

EARTHMOTHER

Band:SEAMOUNT
Album:EARTHMOTHER
Label:THE CHURCH WITHIN
Format:CD
Genre:Stoner/Doom/Occult/Sludge Metal

Fourth Album of the German / American band with Phil Swanson ( Hour of 13, Vestal Claret...) on vocals.

"This is the first concept record of sorts by Seamount. It was inspired by a friend and the change she made in me and how I look at life. Also by some revelations I had in a very deep and dark conversation with another friend when he helped me realize perhaps I have been hiding behind the negative because I had never witnessed the positive. Theres a simple tool to use when listening to this record. On the surface it plays like a spiritually themed storyline but if you replace the idea of faith and religion with “love” and god with the “one you love” then you can read between the lines. It is dedicated to the “greatest love” something Ive always wondered about and admired. I have a better understanding of what it is now and how we ourselves own our love and make it as strong as we choose. Its how much we are willing to give and offer not how much we receive. That’s why it can be “blind” at times. We create love the same as we create God, its our faith in it that makes it what it is". - Phil Swanson

GREEN VAPOUR

Band:LORD OF THE GRAVE
Album:GREEN VAPOUR
Label:THE CHURCH WITHIN
Format:CD
Genre:Stoner/Doom/Occult/Sludge Metal

We all are doomed to die and sooner or later we will all end up as dust in the ground. So, we all have to face the «Lord of the Grave» some time. For those who are eager to have a slight foresight to this state can discover that here by themselves. It can be an earth shattering, almost outta-body experience, it will take you to death and even further. The hypnotic riffs and chants will disturb your mind in calming it down. Witness in an euphoric perception the stringy, sticky, blasting sound to which the undead would feast.

Lord of the Grave come from the doom of the Black Sabbath, playing the most leaden, sinister form of heavy metal/blues/rock n roll.

TOO MUCH IS NOT ENOUGH

Band:OMAR AND THE HOWLERS
Album:TOO MUCH IS NOT ENOUGH
Label:BURNSIDE
Format:CD
Genre:Blues

“Yes, I know, I know I have already released a tribute to Jimmy Reed. Let me be the first to say that I know this. On the Jimmy Reed Highway was a joy to record with Jimmie Vaughan and all of my good friends who played on that release. But damn the torpedoes, Too Much is not enough is a completely different approach to Jimmy Reed. The common thread between the two releases is the incredible talent featured on the tracks. The players are so good that the music speaks for itself. The most important reason to release these songs: they are the last recordings I did with my good friend, Gary Primich. I had planned to do a Jimmy Reed tribute for more than 20 years. My original idea was to release an Omar and the Howlers record which featured guest artists playing on some of the tracks. Too Much is not enough is the result of this vision.” Omar Kent Dykes, 2012

I LOVE HATE YOU

Band:CLAUDE HAY
Album:I LOVE HATE YOU
Label:BURNSIDE
Format:CD
Genre:Blues

Australian Claude Hay's album I Love Hate You follows up his critically acclaimed 2010 release Deep Fried Satisfied, a successful album for the indie artist worldwide. Claude performed live on National Public Radio and promptly shot to number nine on the US Billboard Blues charts. Deep Fried Satisfied hit top five on iTunes and MediaGuide, and on Amazon's top ten Blues albums of 2010, with the track 'Miss You So' polling third in Best Blues Song of the Year. I Love Hate You finds Claude in rare collaborative mood, with the input of other musicians, most notably members of the Sydney band, Chase The Sun. Mastering is courtesy of William Bowden [Gotye, Kylie Minogue, The Living End]. I Love Hate Yo' deals mainly with the things Claude loves, hates and loves to hate. From loved ones, great gigs, and motor vehicles to treacherous trans-continental bus rides and indifferent radio programmers.

"Claude Hay is a blues/roots artist who, paradoxically, hails from Australias Blue Mountains but who delivers slide driven blues that take their inspiration from the Mississippi Delta and the Northern Mississippi Hill Country, liberally laced with funk and 60s blues rock, or should that be rocking blues. If you like Burnside, Kimbrough, North Mississippi Allstars et al then this set is for you". – Blues in Britain

LIVE IN HAMBURG - THE FABRIK CONCERT 1973

Band:EDGAR BROUGHTON BAND
Album:LIVE IN HAMBURG - THE FABRIK CONCERT 1973
Label:SIREENA
Format:CD
Genre:Blues

In the course of their many tours on the European continent The Edgar Broughton Band guested on 10th of March 1973 in the FABRIK in Hamburg. What the Band did not know: the concert was recorded in full length , and then disappeared from the scene. We dug it and present it now in a digitally reworked version. A great moment in the long history of this British progressive blues band whose “Out Demons Ou”t became a political anthem of the seventies. It is, of course, among many other titles of the EBB to find on this CD. A true document.
