EMBRACING THE LIGHTLESS DEPTHS

Band:ALDEBARAN
Album:EMBRACING THE LIGHTLESS DEPTHS
Label:Profound Lore
Format:CD
Genre:Stoner/Doom/Occult/Sludge Metal

Along with the now defunct Asunder, Portland, Oregon’s ALDEBARAN have always been considered to be the West Coast’s most prominent funeral/death/doom metal band. The prolific unit began in 2004 and even though they have previously only had one full-length album under their repertoire, that band have developed a cult following surrounding the many splits (with such bands as Unearthly Trance and Zoroaster), EP’s, and compilations that bear their name.

ALEBARAN’s new album, “Embracing The Lightless Depths”, is their second full-length release and the direct follow-up to 2007’s “Dwellers In The Twilight” and follows last years one-song 30 minute EP “Buried Beneath Aeons”. The new album takes the band’s style of colossal funeral death doom to the highest point by creating a monolithic and monstrous album which unearths their strongest material to date.

For fans of Asunder, Thergothon, Skepticism, and Autopsy...

THE GOLEM

Band:BLACK FRANCIS
Album:THE GOLEM
Label:BURNSIDE
Format:CD
Genre:Rock

"For those unfamiliar with the film The Golem: How He Came Into The World, the 1920 German Expressionist film tells the story of Rabbi Loew who attempted to protect his persecuted Jewish community in Prague by creating a giant warrior out of clay. The creature refuses, however, instead setting fire to the Jewish ghetto and rampaging throughout, until a little girl removes the sacred seal that gave it life. But, if that all sounds too baroque to match with Francis, don't be afraid. The soundtrack is more Western than classical, the twanging guitars often reminiscent of Neil Young's score for Dead Man. . .The project relishes the unexpected, shifting genre and instrumentation at the drop of a hat. . .Francis knocks out some serious, dramatic narrative here, a lot like his best Pixies days." -Consequence of Sound

"Black Francis sounds fully energized here, and this album ranks, alongside Teenager of the Year and Dog in the Sand, as part of his best solo work to date." -Tiny Mix Tapes

THE GOLEM - A FILM - DVD

Band:BLACK FRANCIS
Album:THE GOLEM - A FILM - DVD
Label:BURNSIDE
Format:DVD
Genre:Rock

The DVD of The Golem with the full score of the film written, performed and recorded by Black Francis. Often regarded as the height of German expressionism, the silent, black and white film The Golem was the last of a series of three films by director Paul Wegener and was released in 1920. Set in the 16th century, The Golem: How He Came Into The World tells the story of the persecution of the Jews of Prague. The highly expressionistic imagery seen in the film was captured by legendary cinematographer Karl Freund, who went on to do the classic Metropolis in 1927. Groundbreaking as it was, the film sat 'silent' for nearly 88 years until the San Francisco International Film Festival requested Black Francis score the film and perform it live for their annual film festival in April 2008.
