ASPHALT FOR EDEN

Band:DALEK
Album:ASPHALT FOR EDEN
Label:Profound Lore
Format:CD
Genre:Rap/Hip Hop

Conceived in New Jersey from its emerging DIY scene from the late ‘90s, cult hop-hop trio DÄLEK were known as pioneers over the last fifteen years or so of an intriguing sound which fused a blend of progressive hip-hop artistry supported by a rhythmic backdrop consisting of sonic experimentation through noise music and dark ambient (they would be dubbed by journalists as what would happen when you mix Public Enemy and My Bloody Valentine). Their singularity would be highlighted in four defining milestone full-length albums released on Mike Patton’s Ipecac Recordings (one of them being their “Absence” masterpiece LP from 2005), along with live actions where the band would support the likes of Tool and The Melvins, and even collaborate with the likes of artists such as Faust. In Spring 2015 mastermind MC Dälek (a.k.a. Will Brooks, with the blessing of ex-member/co-producer Oktopus) revived DÄLEK after a hiatus with a new lineup which now includes DJ rEk and Mike Swarmbots and are now preparing to release their new album “Asphalt For Eden” which will be the first official DÄLEK release since their last full-length, 2009’s “Gutter Tactics”. “Asphalt For Eden” sees a new creative peak for DÄLEK and will bring a new awareness for this cult hip-hop entity now resurrected once again and ready to show a formidable display of true hip hop artistry and experimentation through their new album and the plethora of touring the band have planned in support of it. A band which many see as one of the most genuine underground DIY hip hop iconoclasts.

“Asphalt For Eden” is the first official DÄLEK release since their 2009 album “Gutter Tactics” and marks the return of the originators of hip-hop noise ambient experimentation after a long hiatus ;  For 20 years DÄLEK are considered pioneers in urban hip-hop and one of the first bands to combine hip-hop with harsh noise and experimental music.

THE WOUND AND THE BOW

Band:GERYON
Album:THE WOUND AND THE BOW
Label:Profound Lore
Format:CD
Genre:Death Metal

GERYON is a two-man NY-based avant-garde technical prog-death metal band comprised of one half of KRALLICE, namely bassist/vocalist Nicholas McMaster and drummer Lev Weinstein.

Solely through bass guitar, drums, and vocals, GERYON conjure a singular vision through complex layers and meticulously crafted tones where dissonance and melody maintain that equilibrium though the band’s chaotic sound. Taking from the blueprint through the duo’s experience in Krallice and Astomatous (the two-piece band McMaster and Weinstein had years before joining Krallice while they were Chicago-based, which was also a progressive metal outfit that consisted only of bass, drums, and vocals), GERYON while seemingly stripped down to the bare minimum without any electric guitars in the mix whatsoever, the sounds that conjure from the duo’s new album “The Wound And The Bow” (which follows 2013’s selftitled debut) present an enveloping and overwhelming sound picture. A bizarre, strange yet unforgettable and twisted sonic journey to behold.

For fans of Krallice, Gorguts, Dysrhythmia, and overall technical dissonant avant-garde death metal

SHIFTING MIRRORS

Band:BLAAK HEAT
Album:SHIFTING MIRRORS
Label:SVART
Format:CD
Genre:Stoner/Doom/Occult/Sludge Metal

Formed in Paris by guitarist/singer Thomas Bellier (ex-Spindrift) in 2008, Blaak Heat relocated to Los Angeles in 2012 withdrummer Mike Amster and bassist Tom Davies (formerly of psych mavericks Nebula). Dropping the former name of Blaak Heat Shujaa, they became more primal, more indigenous and expanded the Eastern influence by incoorperating more traditional instruments and using percussionist Nelson Bragg (The Brian Wilson Group) to embellish the developing sound. ' Shifting Mirrors’ is an album that is as intriguing as it is perilously unrelenting. By exploring a range of tonalities, tempos, and traditional soundscapes, Blaak Heat are able to traverse a number of musical territories. The lead track from the album ‘ Sword of Hakim’ demonstrates the best of the bands unruly, bludgeoning guitar tone, whilst also creating a technically composite and solid rhythmic approach, which brutally rolls out, leaving the listener feeling transcended.

CORNUCOPIA DELLA MORTE

Band:BLIZARO
Album:CORNUCOPIA DELLA MORTE
Label:I VOIDHANGER
Format:CD
Genre:Stoner/Doom/Occult/Sludge Metal

John Gallo, the unsung American master of horror doom, is back with the long-awaited sophomore album by BLIZARO. No less adventurous than its predecessor (“City Of The Living Nightmare”, 2010) or the “Strange Doorways” collection of demos and rarities, "Cornucopia della Morte" is however more powerful, dynamic, focused and refined. Written and recorded in 2013, the album was then shelved to make room to Gallo's uncontrollable bursts of creativity which lead to JOHN GALLOW, a solo project that debuted on I, Voidhanger Records in 2014 with the acclaimed doom masterpiece “Violet Dreams”. Now that BLIZARO are writing new material, “Cornucopia della Morte” has been called back from its provisional grave and wrapped in an imaginative cover painting by Dan Bell which perfectly captures BLIZARO's penchant for all things horror, doomy and weirdly dark. Driven by Gallo's rip-roaring guitar-playing and slanted vocals, and by the formidable rhythm section of Mark Rapone (bass) and Mike Waske (drums), “Cornucopia della Morte” conjures up the ghosts of Goblin, Black Sabbath, Paul Chain, Pentagram and Candlemass at the crossroad of doom, prog, psych rock, heavy metal, and the Italian horror soundtracks from the 70's. The album features 8 new BLIZARO songs, plus a shattering cover of "Voyage To Hell" (Paul Chain Violet Theatre).

THE BIG FIT

Band:SKATING POLLY
Album:THE BIG FIT
Label:BURNSIDE
Format:CD
Genre:Rock

Skating Polly began six years ago – while members Kelli Mayo and Peyton Bighorse were still in middle school. Now, three albums later, with extensive U.S. and U.K. tours under their belt, the punk-infused pop duo are releasing their newest album, The Big Fit, their most fully realized collection of head-bopping, not quite sugar-sweet pop music infused with visceral, distortion-drenched punk sounds. It’s raw, infectious and inciting. It’s real. Last seen supporting an approving Babes In Toyland In the UK.

"Sit up and listen. - NME

“So happy that there were two young women out there making good music on their own in the middle of America.” –Exene Cervenka - X

"Some music gets it. Some music doesn’t get it. This gets it. This is fucking fantastic. I don’t give a shit about their age. Either music gets it or it doesn’t. And this gets it." –Everett True

SENTIENCE

Band:SKARLETT RIOT
Album:SENTIENCE
Label:SR RECORDS
Format:CD
Genre:Metal

Skarlett Riot’s burgeoning reputation as one of the UK’s finest young bands continued to build with their last EP ‘We Are The Brave’, not only with the critics, but also in the live arena with the band packing out their own headline tours of the UK and pulling more high profile support slots, including a tour with Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Gus G. (with Skarlett being personally invited to sing Gus’ ‘Long Way Down’ single at every show) as well as many more festival slots. A February 2016 UK tour with fast-rising New Zealand act Devilskin sees Skarlett Riot bringing down the curtain on the ‘We Are The Brave’ record but fear not, as their brand new EP, ‘Sentience’ is due May 2016. Another huge step up in the band’s song writing, ‘Sentience’ is powerful, edgy and hugely melodic and will be supported with another extensive bout of touring.

“Fires off like a grappling hook purpose-built to host the quartet towards stardom..A band ready to contend for the top." KKKK - Kerrang! Magazine
