NEVER CROSS THE DEAD

Band:HOODED MENACE
Album:NEVER CROSS THE DEAD
Label:Profound Lore
Format:CD
Genre:Death Metal

HOODED MENACE mastermind Lasse Pyykko is a legend of sorts within Finland’s underground death metal scene forming Phlegethon in the late ‘80s and being active within the death metal underground during the course of the early-to-mid ‘90s. Recently though, he’s been one of, if not the most prolific musician within death metal surfacing with several killer acts such as Claws, Vacant Coffin, and Acid Witch. But HOODED MENACE has been the act Lasse has gotten the most attention and buzz with, his true calling manifesting in some of the most vile, old-school and sludgy death doom today.

Only formed in 2007, it didn’t take long for HOODED MENACE to create buzz with its doomy death doom that mirrors some of the most classic and legendary acts of the genre such as Winter, old-school Cathedral, Asphyx, Hellhammer, early Paradise Lost, and of course the almighty Autopsy. But the character embossed by HOODED MENACE was that it became a musical tribute to the classic and cult horror movies in which HOODED MENACE bases its songs around. Movies like Night Of The Living Dead, Manhattan Baby, Night Of The Seagulls, Tombs Of The Blind Dead and Return Of The Evil Dead are a big part of what inspires HOODED MENACE songs to take their form.

THE OCEAN are an exceptional band, and not just since yesterday. For years the Berlin collective has stood out because of its musical depth, seriousness and high artistic standards. Since their instrumental album “Fogdiver” and the subsequent “Aeolian” it has been clear they are onto something really special in the realm of post-hardcore/noise/ambient music. With “Precambrian”, THE OCEAN have set themselves a monument – from the stunning design by award-winning artist Martin Kvamme, to the double album’s comprehensive concept, to the ambitious music of this behemoth created by 26 participating musicians. Two entirely different CDs bring the listener back to the dawn of Mother Earth. Atmospheric, dense, beautiful – as well as brutal, heavy and destructive. That’s “Precambrian”, the first stage of the Earth’s evolution subdivided into two successive geological eons (“Hadean/Archean” and “Proterozoic”). The songs are divided into 5 subordinate eras, with the song titles carrying the names of subordinate geological periods.

SKY DISK

Band:NEBRA
Album:SKY DISK
Label:PELAGIC
Format:CD
Genre:METAL/POST ROCK

Nebra construct the sonic image of a nuclear-powered icebreaker: choking heaviness, relentless brutality and mind-boggling precision set them apart from most of their instrumental peers. Yes, “Sky Disk” is instrumental AND heavy at the same time. A loud, ugly metal album, more than a nice pretty post-something album. Nebra's roots in progressive noise rock soon become obvious in the 5 tracks of their debut EP: members of NEBRA have been, or are still, active in Swiss math/noise legends KNUT (Hydrahead Records), NOSTROMO and MUMAKIL (Relapse Records). The band has supported Gojira. Debut-CD EP of this Swiss all-star-band.

NEBRA are unique with their catchy yet heavy approach to instrumental metal! Ex- & current members of KNUT, MUMAKIL and NOSTROMO - Special digipak-packaging including mini-CD with special print colors. Design by SELDON HUNT (Isis etc).
