GREASEWHEEL

Band:VIRGIN KIDS
Album:GREASEWHEEL
Label:FLUFFER
Format:Vinyl LP
Genre:Garage Punk

Fluffer Records, the cult underground label that brought you Sewer Rats and Love Buzzard and the label that re-invented the live music scene through Pit Parties (Slaves/ Cerebral Ballzy/ Heck/ God Damn), announce their newest signing, Virgin Kids.

Originally started as the bedroom project of frontman Asher Preston, Virgin Kids were fully formed in late 2014 with the addition of childhood friend Paul Rosser and ex-Fawn Spots drummer Sean Hughes. They deliver frenetically energised rock‘n’roll that draws from sources such as post-punk and the ‘70s West Coast (think Gun Club, FIDLAR, The Black Lips).

DIY magazine says “Virgin Kids share the same grime-under-fingernails, downright grubby mentality as fellow garage punks The Black Lips and Hinds. But with new song ‘Cracks in a Colour’, they form a gnarly manifesto of their own”

Joint release with Burger Records (US).

Limited Edition 12’ vinyl (includes download codes). Exclusive limited edition bonus download track with vinyl purchase.

SLOW FOREVER

Band:COBALT
Album:SLOW FOREVER
Label:Profound Lore
Format:Double CD
Genre:Metal

Colorado’s COBALT, over the years and since they began working with Profound Lore Records with 2007’s landmark “Eater Of Birds” album, have become recognized as one of the most singular and defining extreme American metal bands today. Their 2009 album “Gin” is recognized as a pillar in American extreme metal, a milestone album of literature-influenced progressive apocalyptic wasteland metal that took the American metal scene by storm and landed on pretty much all best-of year end lists the year it came out.

Now almost exactly seven years since the release of “Gin”, COBALT (now defined as the duo of multi-instrumentalist/mastermind Erik Wunder and new vocalist Charlie Fell, ex-LORD MANTIS) are poised to releases one of the most anticipated metal releases of 2016, their long-awaited new double album “Slow Forever”

“Slow Forever” sees COBALT, after years dealing with personal turbulence, tragedy, contemplation, and even confusion, return triumphant and focused as ever. With Wunder formulating their sound that naturally takes off where “Gin” left off and new vocalist Fell bringing a new character and sense of savagery and violence that’s synonymous with the COBALT sound, “Slow Forever” is another epic offering from the COBALT cannon destined to hammer down and make its notable impact as one of the most defining metal albums to be released in 2016.

A double album with an 86-minute running time set at a single CD price, is seen as one of the most anticipated metal albums of 2016. A must for fans of Neurosis, Tool, Swans, High On Fire, and Mayhem.

Varahtelija

Band:ORANSSI PAZUZU
Album:Varahtelija
Label:SVART
Format:CD
Genre:Black Metal

In 2013 Finland’s Oranssi Pazuzu issued their ‘Valonielu’ LP, an album of timeless creative immensity that was met with ubiquitous praise throughout the world, and solidified the band’s position as one of the most forwardthinking and interesting metal bands. Now Oranssi Pazuzu returns with the follow-up album and fourth overall, the mind-bending masterwork ‘Värähtelijä'. Oranssi Pazuzu, since birth, has never been satisfied to stick with a formula. Each album has seen the band expand upon its previous incarnation and then, like a supernova, blow it up and transform again into something recognizable but completely new. ‘Värähtelijä’ continues in this vein, giving the band much more room to diverge and explore the vast regions of hypnotic progressive psychedelia and the nebulous outer limits of Scandinavian black metal. Songs explode with radiant ultraviolet color and plunge into the deep black darkness of innermost consciousness. If ‘Valonielu’ was the creation of a universe, ‘Värähtelijä’ is the magnification and expansion of its infinite boundaries. A 70+ minute sprawling voyage, ‘Värähtelijä’ more accurately represents the stunning live presence of the band where the songs often span new and previously unheard dimensions of form and structure. Not meant for genre purists, Oranssi Pazuzu are on a trip all their own; modern electric pioneers on an expedition to unlock the keys to the hidden spaces all around and inside us.

111 PART 2

Band:K-X-P
Album:111 PART 2
Label:SVART
Format:CD
Genre:Kraut / Space Rock

The esoteric electronic space rock saga continues Take the themes of: fear of war, paranoia, euphoria, dark sexuality and a cosmic new age and imagine them in the industrial backdrop of 1970s Sheffield and you have Timo Kaukolampi’s vision for what the fourth K-X-P album 'III Part II' sounds and looks like. The Finnish group – the core unit of which has now long comprised of the trio: Timo Kaukolampi (electronics, vocals and the ‘K’), Tuomo Puranen (bass, keyboards and the ‘P’), and alternating drummers (the ‘X’ – for the mystery) Tomi Leppänen and Anssi Nykänen – are once again found to be breaking territory in the second part of their album III. If Part I was the brooding, rising and tension-ensconced opening act then Part II is the climatic and explosive finale that wraps up the thirteen tracks that stretches across the two releases. It’s a rare feat to be able to create a second half to something that feels both unique and of its own character as well as be something that retains coherence and conclusion but K-X-P has succeeded in doing just that.

Praise for II & III Part I “Eccentric Finnish trancetechno fusion with ritualistic overtones” **** Mojo "a bold dazzling leap" **** The Guardian "a cruious amalgam of minimal techno, polar ambience and rock" Q "a kaleidoscopic host of vintage analogue effects, choirs, walls of guitar and epic keyboard melodies" 8/10 Uncut “their music is incredibly rhythmic, their grooves - paranoid dark disco and motorik - deep” Pitchfork "extraordinary" 8/10 Drowned In Sound "like Marc Bolan backed by ELP and LCD Soundsystem" The Times "a group who've perfected an enticing blend of trippy, electronic pop-driven adventures based loosely on Krautrock sensibilities" 8/10 DJ Mag

CD Format.

CHIEF

Band:TALMUD BEACH
Album:CHIEF
Label:SVART
Format:CD
Genre:Rock

Talmud Beach is a blues trio from the heartlands of Finland, releasing their second album Chief in March 2016. The new album carries with it the same praised spirit evoked on the debut: it puts a blues on your face, without pushing, pulling, or shouting. The boogie is still floating with the weight of a snowflake, but the colors and shades are more varied than on the vivid green debut. “Chinaman Blues” swamps; “Forest” is redolent and dark; “Mountain Man” is left in the white haze of the mountain top, and in the end a chief’s hat awaits you in all the colors of the rainbow. Talmud Beach is wandering the trails marked by artists like Robert and Blind Willie Johnson, Mississippi Fred McDowell, Canned Heat, Z Z Top, J.J. Cale, and 22-Pistepirkko. Today, music is often played at loud volume, and it has intensively produced and massive sounds. For Talmud Beach the quest for intensity has always gone beyond the volume knob - a quiet, sensitive approach is more effective. CD Format.

CYCLE OF REVENGE

Band:CONVULSE
Album:CYCLE OF REVENGE
Label:SVART
Format:CD
Genre:Death Metal

Death metal veterans rewrite the rules

The band's forthcoming, fourth album, Cycle of Revenge, has been in process for many months already, and during those months, the Convulse trio composed eight new songs. However, on Cycle of Revenge, Convulse really haven't gone back to their "death 'n' roll" mode, but have still made a radical musical shift. Try to imagine combining some of Pink Floyd's psychedelic, airy moments with Finnish prog-rock masters Kingston Wall's beautiful, ear-tickling melodies. Throw in the genuine angst and despair-ridden melancholia of Sentenced's Amok album, and even add some grooviness àla Sepultura's later era or Soulfly, then spice it all up with Rami Jämsä's trademark-ish throaty and belly-trembling death grunts. You may now have some sort of an idea what can be expected from Cycle of Revenge.
