MALEFICIA LAMIAH

Band:POMBAGIRA
Album:MALEFICIA LAMIAH
Label:BLACK AXIS
Format:CD
Genre:Stoner/Doom/Occult/Sludge Metal

Pombagira deliver with Maleficia Lamiah their most adventurous exploration of all things heavy and psychedelic. This being their fifth album in as many years sees the band leaving behind the strict confines of doom. By exploring a more expansive range of music this album has to be one of the most original releases by any band in the last decade and one which will appeal to more than a niche market. Testifying to this successful transition there’s Vic Singh, the famous photographer who he did the cover of Pink Floyd’s Piper at the Gates of Dawn and also filmed the Beatles at Abbey Road in 1967, has come forward to support the release of this new album by doing all the accompanying photography. This is one of the most anticipated releases of 2013 and will redefine all forms of musical expression. Refreshing in its compositional content the Pombagira have set themselves up as being one of the high flyers of the year. Heavier than most as well as being noisier than any previous release, has ensured this acid-hazed slice of inspiration cuts a new inroad between progressive rock, with indie amplified My Bloody Valentine, to drone masters Sunn o)) and the experimental Boris and then back again to Kraut Rock and early Psychedelia. It’s a journey well worth undertaking.

EAGER TEETH

Band:EAGER TEETH
Album:EAGER TEETH
Label:A Wolf At Your Door Records
Format:CD
Genre:Punk / Emo

Formed in 2010 from the ashes of Telegraphs, Chaos Days and Epitaph Records’ This City, Brighton quintet EAGER TEETH quickly uncovered a unique musical chemistry, borne from a collective music nostalgia for the punk, post hardcore and alt-indie of yesteryear. Armed with years of combined experience on tour and in the rehersal room, the quintet wasted no time in assembling an arsenal of songs and hitting the road. And after just a handful of shows, their esoteric take on anthemic, punk laced alt-rock, along with the off-kilter video for debut single ‘Lights Out’, had gained them a groundswell buzz and the considerable affections of A Wolf At Your Door Records (Mallory Knox, Deaf Havana, Lower Than Atlantis)

With WAYD in their corner, Eager Teeth spent summer 2012 tucked away with rising producer pair Thomas Mitchener and Steve Sears (Gallows, Spycatcher) tracking their dynamic self-titled debut album. Inspired by their record collections, which barley push past the early noughties, and the simple, no frills desire to make music that they love, Eager Teeth created a debut that is both the sum of its collective influence, and an honest expression of five musical imaginations. Eager Teeth feels familiar but not derivative, like an album you’ve known and loved for a long time. Lyrically, Eager Teeth muses on poet William Blake’s 18th century work ‘The Marriage Of Heaven & Hell’, vocalist Will Blood exploring and interpreting the grandiose themes of Blake’s text through his own eyes against his band’s warm and kinetic musical backdrop.

VICTORY!

Band:THE SMOKING HEARTS
Album:VICTORY!
Label:BOMBER MUSIC
Format:CD
Genre:Punk / Hardcore

The Smoking Hearts were championed by the UK rock media when they released their first album 2 years ago. However, the singer left, and the band briefly floundered before finding new singer Ben and recording this pounding follow up album.

“This is head banging, beer‐spitting, ear‐bleeding Rock ‘N’ Roll at its loudest and proudest... Boasting enough power to raise the dead” ‐ Kerrang!

"Their brand of Valient Thorr or Zeke‐esque guitar‐mangling marks them out as worthy contenders to take Gallows’ ‘Kings Of British Punk’ crown." ‐ NME

“Their incendiary songs and live energy is pure perspiration soaked entertainment to the max. These boys deserve your attention and deserve to be huge.” ‐ Big Cheese

LIVE AT ROADBURN 2012

Band:CONAN
Album:LIVE AT ROADBURN 2012
Label:ROADBURN
Format:CD
Genre:Stoner/Doom/Occult/Sludge Metal

"Stage1 at Roadburn 2012 was already overcrowded when Conan entered (with their gear through the audience) and laid down an hour of ‚Horseback battle doom‘. ‘The band were in obviously ebullient form, stoked at playing this legendary festival and also being asked to join Sleep in Oslo, as selections from the new and monstrous ‘Monnos’ were intermingled with the huge and bulldozing force of classics like ‘Krull’ and ‘Older Than Earth’. Jon’s instantly likeable faraway vocals have never sounded more realised to these ears, and the audience were massively appreciative of Conan’s true wallop as the Stonehenge of amps that framed the band belched out universe-sized slices of ultra low-end hostility. A special mention too for Paul O’Neil’s expert drumming which represents the kind of versatility and intelligence that one would not usually expect with this most primal of genres, truly adding colour to the palette. By the end of the set I had cunningly worked my way into the centre of the room and believe me I was not regretful of the deoxygenated crush of Stage 01 – Conan had finally arrived on the international stage like the great wrecking ball that they have always been and I needed to be there to witness their special Roadburn moment. I toast thee lads – you are truly monolithic" ‘ The Sleeping Shaman

LIVE AT ROADBURN 2012.

Band:BONGRIPPER
Album:LIVE AT ROADBURN 2012.
Label:ROADBURN
Format:CD
Genre:Stoner/Doom/Occult/Sludge Metal

"On the main stage, Bongripper performing all of the beautiful ‘Satan Worshipping Doom’ album proved to be a revelation for most at the festival. Massively framed by the enormous and intricate cover art, the four silent Chicagoans seemed to teach us all a lesson in how to deliver the heaviest and most atmospheric of music using just stringed instruments, drums and electricity. No head was left un-nodded in the 013 building as they blew away most of the competition with such furiously focussed cyclopean riffing that a crack nearly appeared in the Dutch sea walls 60 miles to the west. One hour of faultless instrumental rock. I felt hugely privileged. To quote any young American – ‘fucking awesome’". The Sleeping Shaman

Double CD capturing the 2 sets Bongripper played at Roadburn 2012.

THE FATE OF THE WORLD DEPENDS ON THIS KISS

Band:WHITEHORSE
Album:THE FATE OF THE WORLD DEPENDS ON THIS KISS
Label:BURNSIDE
Format:CD
Genre:Alt-Country / Americana

Melissa McClelland and Luke Doucet tie the musical knot with Whitehorse, marrying their talent and chemistry as a smoldering duo. The Fate of the World Depends on This Kiss is the songbird and falcon’s first full-length album. The record takes surprising turns; while each track bears Whitehorse’s signature blistering guitar work and love-knotted vocals, their willingness to take risks while staying true to themselves makes for captivating listening. The album covers impressive ground without compromising its artistic coherence. On stage, the duo punches above their weight, wielding a multitude of guitars amidst intricate looping pedals, stomp box, and odds and ends percussion. Luke and Melissa have been recognized with awards and nominations from the Juno Awards, Polaris Music Prize, the Canadian Folk Music Awards, the Hamilton Music Awards, and the Independent Music Awards.

“Domestic bliss with a serrated edge. At once erotically charged and exuberant” UNCUT 8/10

Luke and Melissa's stunning take on the Americana tradition has been compared with artists as diverse as Lucinda Williams, Drive By Truckers, Emmylou Harris, Chris Issak, Neil Young, Johnny and June...and they hold their own in such exalted company.

BLACKENED EARTH

Band:SKREAMER
Album:BLACKENED EARTH
Label:SKREAMER MUSIC
Format:CD
Genre:Metal

Skreamer have rapidly taken London by storm having sold out all their London gigs including The Borderline on their own which in the current economic climate is impressive!! They have recently returned from a Dutch Tour where they took the place by storm and will be returning early this year in the middle of their nationwide tour.

The guys are just 20, prolific writers and Sam the lead guitarist could give any of the greats a run for their money – diversity, musicality and just sheer innovative writing make these guys the Metal band of 2013 who are rapidly being named as the band to watch...

“Front man Samuel Morter is a frenzied colossus, bellowing messages of hate down into the crowd while unleashing razor wire riffs from his oddly positioned guitar. The band have ideas aplenty, making each song travel its own personal journey through Machine Head come- Chimaira territory with each and every track containing a wall banger of a chorus. Over the next year these abundance of ideas will become more refined, by which time Skreamer could be unstoppable.” - Rock Matrix 2012

GATHER THE SINNERS

Band:DEVIL
Album:GATHER THE SINNERS
Label:SOULSELLER
Format:CD
Genre:Stoner/Doom/Occult/Sludge Metal

Norwegian doom rockers DEVIL return with their second opus, after pleasantly surprising many with their 2011 debut “Time to Repent”. “Gather the Sinners” is a step up both in song writing, performance and production. It also varies from the doomiest they’ve ever done to the most classic heavy metal they ever done, and if that's not enough; the most garage they’ve ever done. Fans of Devil will not be disappointed, and with a higher standard on all accounts, we can all be confident that Gather the Sinners will be a worthy sophomore album."
