LIVE & WELL

Band:B.B. KING
Album:LIVE & WELL
Label:BEAR FAMILY RECORDS
Format:LP
Genre:Blues

180gram vinyl LP, re-issue, original gatefold sleeve, 10 tracks. Total playing time approx. 48 minutes. Produced by Bill Szymczyk (J. Geils Band, Joe Walsh, James Gang, Eagles). B.B. King's first top 100 album! Original live and studio recordings Original artwork, gatefold sleeve. Remastered from the original sources 180-gram virgin vinyl 'Live And Well' was produced by then 26-year-old Bill Szymczyk who later became one of rock music's most successful and prolific producers. The album consists of five live tracks (Side A), recorded at New York's Village Gate, and five studio tracks (Side B). It was the first B.B. King album to enter the top 100. Thanks to rock Stars like Eric Clapton and Michael Bloomfield, B.B. King's name had become a common one in rock and guitar circles. Consequently, Szymczyk got together a young group of players taking King's music to the next level with a more soulful and rocking approach. "King's always recorded well as a live act, and it's the concert tracks that shine brightest, although the studio ones (cut with assistance from studio musicians like Al Kooper and Hugh McCracken) aren't bad." (Richie Unterberger, All Music Guide). We are making this great live and studio set available again in its original form, pressed on high-quality 180-gram virgin vinyl, packaged in a gatefold sleeve with the original artwork and linernotes.

SINGS SHEL SILVERSTEIN…

Band:BOBBY BARE
Album:SINGS SHEL SILVERSTEIN…
Label:BEAR FAMILY RECORDS
Format:8CD PLUS BOOK
Genre:COUNTRY MUSIC/AMERICANA/ SINGER SONGWRITER

Among Silverstein's wry sagas about winners, losers, and lonely all-night cafés, you'll discover charming children's songs and touching, affectionate love ballads. A complicated man, that Silverstein. 8-CD box set (LP-size) with 128-page hardcover book , 137 tracks. Total playing time approx. 8 hours 8 CDs with 137 tracks including 25 previously unreleased recordings. Bobby Bare's interpretations of more than a hundred Shel Silverstein songs. Classic sides from 1972 - 1983 incl. six complete albums. Shel Silverstein wrote hits like Sylvia s Mother and A Boy Named Sue (made famous by Johnny Cash). The live album Great American Saturday Night (unreleased at the time) is expanded here with 3 tracks. 128-page, LP-sized hardcover book with a 2020 Hank Davis interview with Bobby Bare about his friendship with Shel Silverstein, complete lyrics transcriptions, and detailed sessions discography. Includes a new essay by Dave Samuelson about Shel Silverstein and his multi-faceted work. If most people associate the late Shel Silverstein with his children's literature, others remember his cartoons and graphic travelogues for 'Playboy.' By contrast, relatively few recognize this Chicago native as a prolific songwriter, penning such hits as Johnny Cash's A Boy Named Sue, Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show's The Cover Of Rolling Stone, Loretta Lynn's One's On The Way, and The Irish Rovers' The Unicorn. He also wrote Put Another Log On The Fire, Tompall Glaser's memorable showcase on 'Wanted! The Outlaws,' country music's first platinum-selling album. No artist recorded more Silverstein songs than veteran country singer Bobby Bare. His 1972 cover of Silverstein's bittersweet Sylvia's Mother launched a professional relationship that led to an enduring friendship. At Bare's request, Silverstein conceived and composed entire concept albums, starting with 'Lullabys, Legends And Lies,' an exercise in pure imagination from 1974. This two-LP set established Bare as a major album artist and yielded Marie Laveau, the first chart-topping single of the singer's long recording career. A follow-up album, 'Hard Time Hungrys,' captured the downbeat mood of American workers during the mid- '70s recession. A perceptive 'Billboard' reviewer hailed 'Hard Time Hungrys' as "something historians will look back upon." Bare's family participated in the whimsical 'Singin' In The Kitchen,' which included the tender Daddy What If. During the late '70s, Silverstein shifted his creative focus to playwriting and children's books, but he continued crafting clever songs specifically for Bare. When Bare wound down his major-label recording career in the mid-'80s, the singer had recorded more than 100 Silverstein originals, fifteen of them on the notorious 'Great American Saturday Night.' Recorded in 1977, that album was shelved when Bare left RCA for a more lucrative contract with COLUMBIA. Despite their lyrical and historical importance, the Bare/Silverstein collaborations have been sporadically and haphazardly reissued during the compact disc era. In response, BEAR FAMILY RECORDS produced 'Bobby Bare Sings Shel Silverstein, Plus,' the first comprehensive collection of this material. Accompanied by a 128-page hardcover book, its eight CDs include 137 tracks, 25 of them previously unissued. Six albums appear complete, including integral songs by other writers. The long-unheard 'Great American Saturday Night' includes three songs missing from a recent independent label release. The box set contains an LP-sized, lavishly illustrated 128-page hardcover book that contains song lyrics and a discography. In a conversation with Hank Davis, Bare recalls his years working with Silverstein, and Dave Samuelson documents the songwriter's multiple creative pursuits.

THE BALLADS OF JERRY LEE LEWIS

Band:JERRY LEE LEWIS
Album:THE BALLADS OF JERRY LEE LEWIS
Label:BEAR FAMILY RECORDS
Format:CD
Genre:ROCK N ROLL/COUNTRY

1-CD (Digipak) with 24-page booklet, 27 tracks. Total playing time approx. 72 minutes. With 'Ballads' Bear Family presents the soulful and sentimental side of the Killer. 27 beautiful Rock n Roll and Country ballads recorded between 1956 and 1963 for Sun Records. Songs by Charlie Rich, Hank Williams and others as well as selected favourites from the Tin Pan Alley catalogue. Elegant digipak with extensive booklet and detailed liner notes by Chicago music expert Bill Dahl. No certified 1950s legend rocked harder than Jerry Lee Lewis. His immortal Sun Records hits stand among the cornerstones of rock 'n' roll, and Bear Family has spotlighted those classics on plenty of seminal LP and CD packages over the years. But the Killer loved country and rock n roll ballads too tears-in-your-beer weepers that he delivered with the same swaggering panache that he brought to his pulverizing rockers. He revived his career in 1968 by re-embracing that side of his persona, but even during his Sun glory years, Lewis prolifically delivered quality ballads as this new collection, spanning 1956-1963, generously underscores. Jerry Lee rolls through gems by Hank Williams (one of his primary heroes), in-house bard Charlie Rich, a couple of Tin Pan Alley chestnuts and a taste of the blues, and anything else that might have struck his free-wheeling fancy during his unbeatable Sun tenure. Track listing: 01 Crazy Arms 02 Invitation To Your Party 03 Born To Lose 04 I Could Never Be Ashamed Of You 05 Tomorrow Night 06 I'm The Guilty One 07 Fools Like Me 08 Will The Circle Be Unbroken 09 Sail Away (with Charlie Rich) 10 Set My Mind At Ease (Stereo) 11 I'll Make It All Up To You 12 It Hurts Me So 13 Love Letters In The Sand 14 How's My Ex Treating You 15 You Win Again 16 I Know What It Means 17 Turn Around 18 The Balad Of Billy Joe 19 It All Depends 20 Love On Broadway 21 Seasons Of My Heart (with Linda Gail Lewis) 22 Someday 23 That Lucky Old Sun 24 Cold Cold Heart 25 Love Made A Fool Of Me 26 Goodnight Irene 27 I Can't Seem To Say Goodbye
