EXTRA BULL

Band:DESERT PLANET
Album:EXTRA BULL
Label:9PM RECORDS
Format:CD
Genre:Dance/Electronica

10 years of Desert Planet. 10 years of three guys from northern Lapland being the spearhead of Scandinavia's electronic music scene deserve finally an album with all those smashing tracks that are either sold out since years or have been released only on the internet. Particularly their early works which claimed the band's fame in the gamescore scene and internet community haven't been available before on physical sound carrier. A wonderful "best-of" compilation featuring their biggest web hits and tracks which haven't been available for years. Over an hour of quirky bit pop anthems. Their third album on 9pm Records comes in digipack with a marvellous booklet.

MOONROCKS

Band:DESERT PLANET
Album:MOONROCKS
Label:9PM RECORDS
Format:CD
Genre:Dance/Electronica

"Moonrocks“ is the second album of Finland's internationally acclaimed pioneers of bit-pop and 8-bit music inspired pop music, Desert Planet. An album that that has got everything to earn those guys from Lapland their long deserved bigger success. On this one they manage in a both sensitive and clever way to expand their chiptunes-horizon with new and more accessible aspects. Amidst the happy gameconsole-esthetics you will hear surprisingly sinister technoid beat-attacks plus a lot more moments of danceable, electronic pop-music. Though they still don't deny their 8-Bit roots there is now a remarkable complexity in their compositions. This is not anymore just a cheerful pixel-paradise, there is new depth in their tunes. Though experimenting more with song-structures they still manage to stick to their so typical and unique sound that earned them over the years such a huge following in the micromusic/chiptunes-community. An awesome album with a terrific final track: a cover of Vangelis' "Bladerunner“-Theme.

WE SHALL NOT FLAG

Band:GEOFF BERNER
Album:WE SHALL NOT FLAG
Label:9PM RECORDS
Format:CD
Genre:SINGER/SONGWRITER

After years of being sold out Geoff Berner's first full length album is available again as a special edition on 9pm Records! The whole „We Shall Not Flag Or Fail...“-album plus as bonus the complete „Light Enough To Travel“ ep on top. Berner, selfproclaimed "Whiskey Rabbi" and boisterous reformer of Klezmer music from Vancouver, Canada is simply one of the sharpest songwriters on the world music circuit. And he truly leaves an imprint. Quite a huge number of singer/songwriters from (mainly) Canada recorded coverversions of Berner's songs. Some of them with quite big success. Best known probably the Be Good Tanya's version of „Light Enough To Travel“. This album is as much punk as it is folk as it is klezmer. With it's dismissive attitude this album's brushing off the dust and gives back street attitude to Klezmer music. A terrific album.

DEATH POP

Band:KAROSHI LOVERS
Album:DEATH POP
Label:9PM RECORDS
Format:CD
Genre:Indie/Shoegaze

With their debut album the Karoshi Lovers from Helsinki/FIN rocketed themselves from zero to one of the most appreciated acts of the Finnish indie-scene. A threepiece performing in a quite unusual line-up (drums, piano, guitar), fronted by female singer/pianoplayer Ms Stress, managed already then to combine catchy pop-melodies with a remarkable dark element and a theatrical stage-appearance. Now for their second album „Death Pop“ they sharpened their sound adding more rocking elements that so far were mostly a trademark of their live-shows. A smart move. The songs on „Death Pop“ are a simply brillant blend of hard rocking guitars, bubblegum melodies, gloomy atmosphere and danceable beats, held together by singer Ms Stress' vocal presence. There is not to many bands this can be compared with. One might find elements of early Blondie or some bits of PJ Harvey all with a touch of 80s pop in there but at the end of the day it's an all original thing this nordic pop-outfit delivers.

ANGELGOLD PIKES JAW

Band:MAEKKELAES TRASH
Album:ANGELGOLD PIKES JAW
Label:9PM RECORDS
Format:CD
Genre:SINGER/SONGWRITER

The debut full length of Maekkelae's Trash Lounge, Papua New Guinea born singer/songwriter/lofi-popster with Finnish roots. After years of constantly touring Europe Maekkelae delivered this both fragile and intimate collection of lofi flavoured underground pop tunes titled "Angelgold Pike's Jaw". An exciting journey through the artist's microcosm. Inspired material of unique make unpretentiously sauntering along the fringe of storyteller tradition, lofi-pop and intense/personal songwriting. Noise-loops, fragile (electric-) guitarworks, mandolin, piano, oldfashioned synth-sounds and assorted minimal electronica combined in a charming way made „Angelgold Pike’s Jaw“ a one of a kind full length debut of an unconventional European artist. An album never losing track of a certain unreal, dreamy mood. Guesting on this album is Michael Anderson aka. [drekka] of America’s reknown label for lofi/folk oddities bluesanct records.

“…Warped blues, electronics and country-tinged soundscapes…” Time Out, UK

FROM THE END

Band:EDENIAL
Album:FROM THE END
Label:Ravenheart
Format:CD
Genre:Metal

Edenial is a hot new Chile band fronted by the alluring Francisca Lastra, with the album coming in both English and Spanish versions. Here we have the English version. Their style is a more prog metal, but no less catchy, kinda Lacuna Coil/We Are The Fallen featuring the highly skilled fretwork of Gerardo Ihle. Singer Francisca has a powerful expressive voice that cuts through the raging riffage and thunderous production, ensuring that there is always a good tune at the heart of the music.

Sound, and skilled song writing lifts them out of the quagmire of alt-rock/metal bands, this is an album that should go down a storm with alt/gothic/prog metal fans alike.

NEW BIRTH

Band:MASS
Album:NEW BIRTH
Label:Retroactive
Format:CD
Genre:Metal

Originally released on cassette and vinyl in 1985 on RCA Records, this album was nearly impossible to find through the 1990's up until 2007 when the Nevada based secular metal reissues label Retrospect Records finally put out a CD reissue. While legions of fans were thrilled to have this metal classic available on CD for the first time, the 2007 reissue featured significant packaging and mastering issues that left fans frustrated that it did not reflect the magnificence and perfection of the music on the album. So in 2011, the Iowa based Christian label, Retroactive Records has reissued this heavy metal gem with impeccable packaging faithful to the original vinyl release (6 panel digipak with lyrics and a special message from vocalist Louis St. August). Retroactive and the band also went to great lengths to have the album mastered from the original tapes for the first time ever, opting for the magic of the ten original tracks and leaving off the poorly recorded bonus track from the 2007 reissue. New Birth (Anniversary Remasters Edition) ensures this album has never sounded so clear, so powerful, and so pristine giving the reissue the audio perfection it deserves - for the first time ever. Musically, New Birth is one of the heaviest Mass albums. NoLifeTilMetal music critics describe the album as “…100% heavy metal.” There is a slight pop influence that runs throughout, but it's more in line with bands like Kiss, Starz or Sweet. Vocalist Louis St. August has a high, soaring vocal style that is perfect for this style of melodic heavy metal. "Do You Love Me" was the single for the album, even getting them some play on MTV. However, it's the heavier material like the title track, "Too Far Gone" and "Crying Alone" that feature smokin' guitar work, pounding drums and plenty of aggression. For fans of Kiss, Quiet Riot, Stryper, Whitecross, and Barren Cross!
