ACID MOUTH STRANGULATION

Band:FLESHPRESS
Album:ACID MOUTH STRANGULATION
Label:SVART
Format:LP
Genre:Stoner/Doom/Occult/Sludge Metal

On their fourth full length album Finnish sludge rockers evolve from their days as a rough, gritty metal machine towards the unknown. These three long tracks ebb and flow with an organic pulse, from slowly meditative passages to black swamp-sludge metal. An unsettling but oddly beautiful experience.

ROOT JAM

Band:SIENA ROOT
Album:ROOT JAM
Label:Transubstans
Format:CD
Genre:Stoner/Doom/Occult/Sludge Metal

Above all else, this extensive double live album, is a resume of Siena Root's early years. This album features all the elements of the band, from their debut up to recent days. They have managed to pour the bands dynamic energy from the stage right into this box of 91 minutes root rock. You will for sure find the good old heavy riffs, side by side with psychedelic vibes and groovy jams. But there is more, much more to experience in this magnificent album. There are no less than 9 guest artists featured, with a range from classical violin by Martin Stensson from Swedish radio symphonic orchestra, to legendary blues guitarist Maxi Dread. You will also find a lot of Siena Root family from the past such as Tängman and vocalists Oskar and Sanya performing songs on a new level. On top of it all you get previously unreleased material and 2 rare acoustic tracks that reveal a new side of the band. Root Jam is the album that covers the whole colorful spectra of Siena Root, and it's all straight from the stage. No overdubs or studio takes what so ever. If you are into tunes from late 60s, early 70s, you should get your hands on this Double album.

MAGNIFICENT BEAST

Band:MARCH FOURTH MARCHING BAND
Album:MAGNIFICENT BEAST
Label:BURNSIDE
Format:CD
Genre:FUNK/AFROBEAT

This is the third studio release from the unclassifiable "alternative big-band" known as MarchFourth (also known as MarchFourth Marching Band, or "M4" by its fans). Produced by Steve Berlin (Los Lobos), Magnificent Beast features a wide array of genre-mashing groove-based material that has established them as one of the best live touring acts, while stepping it up a notch with more vocals and guitar. Following their 2009 release, Rise Up (a tribute to new Orleans), Magnificent Beast finds the band bringing it all back home to Portland. What began as an experiment in gypsy brass, second-line, afrobeat, samba, and circus has now evolved into a full-blown big-stage brass-rock-funk assault peppered with moments of swing, jazz, bollywood, ska and metal.

HOSETHIEF BEATS

Band:GREGORY SCOTT SLAY
Album:HOSETHIEF BEATS
Label:BURNSIDE
Format:CD
Genre:Rock

Gregory Scott Slay, former drummer of Remy Zero, lost a life-long battle with Cystic Fibrosis on Jan 1, 2010. Though he left us too soon, he had lived about 20 years longer than anyone expected – and (as evidenced by his ample musical output) made every day worth it. Horsethief Beats was the record Slay finished only a few months before he passed. Slay played wrote, sang, and performed practically everything on Horsethief Beats – and because of that we have an odd little creature that resembles Trent Reznor’s dark funk and David Bowie’s late-seventies madness. Short, sweet, and bearing a spooky grimace, Horsethief Beats is a record best enjoyed loud and on repeat.

WELCOME TO ALABAMA

Band:KENNETH BRIAN BAND
Album:WELCOME TO ALABAMA
Label:BURNSIDE
Format:CD
Genre:Alt-Country / Americana

The debut album from The Kenneth Brian Band is an introduction to the New South, by way of a relentless attack of tracks featuring masterful song-crafting, blistering guitar work, spot-on harmonies, and a take-no-prisoners-rhythm section, all tied together by Brian's honest voice and unapologetically strait-forward point of view. Welcome To Alabama shines like a beacon for those who fear that Southern Culture is all but lost, and moreover, proves that it isn't lost at all. Produced by the legendary Johnny Sandlin (Allman Bros. Band), the album features a who's who of Southern music-makers including David Hood, Randall Bramblett, Bonnie Bramlett, Jason Isbell, and more. With their first album, The Kenneth Brian Band has created a Southern Rock Tour De Force that, like its’ namesake, is both progressive and steeped in tradition. Welcome To Alabama.

“Kenneth is really unbelievable as a guitar player, he’s a real shit-kicking gunslinger with great chops and then he writes songs in that Guy Clark and Townes Van Zandt vein of songwriting. It’s not only a hell of a rock ‘n’ roll sound, but the songs are there if you are listening.” - Huntington Herald Dispatch

TEMPERED IN FIRE

Band:LISA MILLS
Album:TEMPERED IN FIRE
Label:BURNSIDE
Format:CD
Genre:Blues

Blazing through a varied landscape of Southern Roots—from the blues of Lisa Mills’ Mississippi birthplace to Muscle Shoals soul—Tempered in Fire showcases Mills’ stunning voice, described by Grahame Rhodes of Blues in the Northwest as being “like a full-throated female Otis Redding.” Recorded and mixed in an all-analogue studio in the countryside of Kent, England, Tempered in Fire includes the considerable talents of guitarist Andy Fairweather Lowe (Amen Corner, Eric Clapton, and Roger Waters) and longtime accompanist, bassist Ian Jennings (Big Town Playboys, Jeff Beck, Van Morrison, and Tom Jones.) All tracks, except for her haunting solo version of “These Arms of Mine,” were written by Mills or someone she knows personally—“from Mobile to Macclesfield,” she laughs.

“When Robert Plant tells you that someone is worth checking out, it’s probably worth listening, when he calls that person a great singer, even more so.” -Blues Matters

UK TOUR DATES: Feb. 14: Scarborough Blues Club, Yorkshire Feb 18: Cranleigh Arts Centre, Surrey Feb 22: The Robin 2, Bilston

CHRYSALIS

Band:MAN ON FIRE
Album:CHRYSALIS
Label:BURNSIDE
Format:CD
Genre:Prog Rock

Chrysalis sees Man on Fire significantly stretching their sound, which has always been described as refreshingly free of obvious influences. For Chrysalis the band has expanded to a six-piece group. In addition to founding member vocalist/keyboardist Jeff Hodges on grand piano, vintage organs, synths and samples, and Eric Sands, once again providing his signature and distinctive elastic fretless bass and dynamic guitar work, the new Man on Fire lineup features the soulful voice of Elise Testone as co-vocalist, percussion phenom Quentin Ravenel on drums, internationally renown trumpeter Cameron Harder Handel, and classically trained virtuoso violinist Jenny Hugh. Together they create a sound that is more natural, yet ornate, organic, and darkly cinematic than previous Man on Fire releases.

AURA aka SATIVA

Band:AURA
Album:AURA aka SATIVA
Label:LION PRODUCTIONS
Format:LP
Genre:Psych/Garage Reissues

A heavy, oft-sampled slab of Bay Area history—and a psych/funk masterpiece that cannot be denied. Aura formed in 1974 and played extensively throughout Northern California. By 1976, the band recorded their first and only album at Pacific Recording Studio in San Mateo. The original title of the album was meant to be “Sativa”, but out of fear that promoting the joys of marijuana would be too controversial, the band omitted the title and just left it as “Aura”. Over the ensuing decades, the Aura album (Chakra CH 001) has grown in stature to become a major soul/funk collector's item. It features a number of major funk tracks plus funky ballads with female vocals. Standouts include 'Sativa' (heavy 70's funk with waterpipe sound effects and blistering guitar), and the manic fuzz-guitar jam 'Skyrocket.' Old style tip-on jacket, and quality vinyl pressing, mastered from the original tapes.

Limited edition of 1,000 copies - Exact replica edition of rare funk collector’s item.
