BACKS TO THE FUTURE

Band:HIAWATA
Album:BACKS TO THE FUTURE
Label:SELLOUT! MUSIC
Format:CD
Genre:Indie/Shoegaze

Backs to the Future is the third album from Norwegian indie-popsters Hiawata! The boys have been at it for 7 years now and have gained more and more popularity in their home country and abroad for their jangly and highly infectuous pop. Their sound has been compared to the likes of The Lemonheads, Comet Gain, The Smiths, Teenage Fanclub and the Television Personalities. The latter became both friends and fans after sharing stage with them in Oslo.

With Backs to the Future the band decided to make a slight change of sound. While still being full of the melodies that gained them their fans it's now wrapped in a full on powerpop coating. Think Pinkerton era Weezer with big choruses and big guitars. Kind of like ABBA on skateboards.

KENNETH ISHAK AND THE FREEDOM MACHINES

Band:KENNETH ISHAK AND THE FREEDOM MACHINES
Album:KENNETH ISHAK AND THE FREEDOM MACHINES
Label:SELLOUT! MUSIC
Format:CD
Genre:Indie/Shoegaze

Kenneth Ishak & The Freedom Machines is the new project from Norwegian tunesmith and producer Kenneth Ishak, known for his solo work and leading the cult indie-rock/powerpop band Beezewax in the late 90s and early 00s. He's been a prominent figure in the indie scene, producing records for bands like Death is Not Glamorous, Hiawata! and The Little Hands of Asphalt.

With this new album and project he wanted to take a step away from his singer/songwriter-labeled solo work and pursue a fuller sound, but without the limitations of being in a rock band. What we've got here is an album where he stretches the sound to emulate the sound of norwegian nature. Big, rough, arctic, warm and cold. The missing link between Pinback, Sonic Youth, Wilco and Elliott Smith, with a scandinavian feel.

THE DOWNFALL OF THE HUMAN RACE

Band:DO OR DIE
Album:THE DOWNFALL OF THE HUMAN RACE
Label:DEMONS RUN AMOK
Format:CD
Genre:Punk / Hardcore

DO OR DIE has always been a live band. Formed in 1999 and led by their founder/singer Chris, DO OR DIE always felt comfortable on stage, no matter if it was at the big European festivals, opening for bands such as Hatebreed, Agnostic Front, Pro-Pain and Biohazard or in front of 100 kids in a club, they always put out the same energy as if it was their first show. After the first 7 inch EP "Tears of Rage" (500 copies sold in less than a month) got released, they immediately started playing shows non-stop all over Benelux and France. 2004 saw them return with a new line-up and the loudest comeback imaginable, when they played Pressure Fest, Graspop and Fury Fest on the same weekend. "Tradition" got recorded around that time too and was released in 2005, marking their first effort for Alveran Records and the start of their cooperation with M.A.D. Tourbooking, both of which opened the doors to Germany for the band. Touring and endless promoting across Germany, Holland, Poland, Sweden, and well known festivals like the Dour Fest, Pressure Fest, With Full Force and even the Superbowl of Hardcore in New York opened them the door to the whole world………

Album:BUSINESS AS USUAL
Label:DEMONS RUN AMOK

The ten tracks of the latest self-titled record of Business As Usual from Wetzlar/Hesse/Germany represent multi-faced modern hardcore, not unlike RUINER, AMERICA NIGHTMARE, NO TURNING BACK, composed of a broad spectrum of different hardcore subgenres. The typical sound of Business As Usual four years after their first release “From Nowhere” (DRA 2007) and two years after a Split 7” (Slaprecords 2009) gives an authentic picture of the band’s needs and interests. It’s a result of friendship and musical as well as individual progression. Business As Usual underline their claim of supporting the hardcore and punk scene through vivid hardcore. Besides short punk songs, melodic and powerful tracks or parts, there are positive and critical lyrics about consumption, war, inhumanity etc.
