Band:VARIOUS ARTISTS
Album:KRAUT! 1968 - 1979, VOL. 2
Label:BEAR FAMILY
Format:2CD
Genre:KRAUTROCK/PROG ROCK

The second part in our four-volume series on the history of progressive rock in Germany. Cross-label documentation of the only relevant German contribution to the international phenomenon of rock music. > Important note for non-German speaking music lovers: all liner notes are in German. An English translation is unfortunately not available. Progressive Rock from Germany! 2-CD (trifold digisleeve) with 100(!)-page illustrated booklet, 25 tracks. Playing time approx. 137min Towards the end of the 1960s, German bands began their first attempts to emancipate themselves stylistically from their US and British role models. ProgRock and Pchychedelia from our country were initially smiled at internationally and disparagingly called 'Krautrock' by cult DeeJay John Peel, among others. Unorthodox formations could not be pigeonholed, and so a scene with a wide musical range was created. The second part is dedicated to the central part of West Germany and presents popular bands such as La Düsseldorf, Passport, Gomorrha, Necronomicon, Shaa Khan, Bröselmaschine, Epitaph und Faithful Breath. Mostly remastered from digital tape copies by Marcus Heumann without wasting the original sound. Compiled and commented on 100(!) pages by Burghard Rausch (DeeJay, vinyl collector, drummer, radio presenter/author and book editor). DR. FEELGOOD

Band:KING SIZE TAYLOR
Album:DR. FEELGOOD
Label:BEAR FAMILY
Format:CD
Genre:ROCK N ROLL/BEAT MUSIC

Third release in our CD series 'The Brits Are Rocking'! With 'Dr. Feelgood' Bear Family presents a long overdue album: the first CD compilation containing all recordings by 'King Size' Taylor for Polydor (as The Shakers) and Ariola (as King Size Taylor & The Dominoes). Especially in Germany, King Size Taylor was known in the early sixties as a regular guest and performer at Hamburg's Star-Club. In the Hanseatic city he performed more than 250 times between 1962 and 1964 and recorded exclusively in Germany during this time. Due to the creation of legends around the young Beatles, King Size Taylor also ran under the popular label 'Beat'. But on closer inspection, Taylor was and always remained the real rocker from the British Isles.

THE BAKERSFIELD SOUND

Band:VARIOUS ARTISTS
Album:THE BAKERSFIELD SOUND
Label:BEAR FAMILY
Format:10CD
Genre:Country

Buck Owens and Merle Haggard emerged from the dim lights, thick smoke and loud, loud music of Bakersfield, California's thriving honky-tonk scene of the 1950s and '60s and changed country music forever. But what is the ‘Bakersfield Sound?’ While twanging Telecasters and crying steel guitars come to mind, the music that emanated from Central California in that era reflected a variety of influences that was expressed in myriad ways. How did the musical world from which Buck and Merle emerged come to be? How were the twin pillars of the Bakersfield Sound shaped by the city's larger musical community? Who were their influences, and what were the musical markers along their paths to success? In what ways did their achievements reshape the local scene from which they emerged? Garmmy-nominated writer Scott B. Bomar tells the story!

DISCOVERING CARL PERKINS - 1952-54

Band:CARL PERKINS
Album:DISCOVERING CARL PERKINS - 1952-54
Label:BEAR FAMILY
Format:LP
Genre:ROCKABILLY/HILLBILLY

Carl Perkins, one of the founding fathers of rock & roll, began his legendary recording career for Sun Records in 1954. After two fairly undistinguished hillbilly outings, he created Blue Suede Shoes, which changed the face of American popular music. It was the first song to top all three charts at once: pop, hillbilly and R&B. Producer and music historian, Shawn Pitts and Hank Davis just made a startling discovery that will rewrite rockabilly history. Carl Perkins recorded at least two years earlier in a small studio in rural Tennessee. Those records make it clear that he was far from the clueless hillbilly who had to be dragged kicking and screaming into the rockabilly revolution. In fact, one of the four songs he recorded was Good Rocking Tonight, perhaps two years earlier than Elvis Presley cut it at Sun! 'Discovering Carl Perkins' contains for the first time anywhere, these historic, unreleased recordings -- complete and remastered for the best possible sound -- along with several rare outtakes from Carl´s earliest Sun period (first time on vinyl). They will appear on a ten-inch LP that includes previously unseen vintage photographs and detailed liner notes about the music, and how the local culture gave rise to these historic, one-of-a-kind recordings. It´s quite a landmark event for those interested in early rock & roll history, Sun Records, Carl Perkins and the birth of rockabilly.

DOOMSDAY ROCK

Band:TOMMY STEELE
Album:DOOMSDAY ROCK
Label:BEAR FAMILY
Format:CD
Genre:ROCK N ROLL

Tommy Steele was Britain's first pop star. The story of how Steele fused the new energy of American rock'n' roll with his own passion for music styles from all over the world is told in the first of a series from Bear Family Productions: Doomsday Rock - The Brits Are Rocking. In the summer of 1956, London was throwing off the grey blanket of post war austerity. New coffee bars and clubs were thronged with young people looking for new fun and entertainment. That summer Tommy Hicks (Steele), Lionel Bart and Mike Pratt met at a party in a beatnik commune called the Yellow Door. They decided to form a group, and call themselves The Cavemen – and the rest is Pop History. On the CD, Steele 's first chaotic recording session, the surreal Rock With The Cavemen keeps up the pace with his covers of Ritchie Valens Come On Let's Go and Freddie Cannon's Tallahassie Lassie. More of Tommy's own songs are included – Teenage Party, The Trial, Hey You!, and an instrumental in which Tommy does a fair impression of A drunk, Drunken Guitar, plus more

SEXY ROCK

Band:COLIN HICKS
Album:SEXY ROCK
Label:BEAR FAMILY
Format:CD
Genre:ROCK N ROLL

Fourth release our CD series 'The Brits Are Rocking'! This compilation of 27 songs is not in chronological order, but nevertheless outlines the interesting career of the Brit rocker. The British have developed their very own kind of Rock 'n' Roll and Rockabilly, mostly a lot more aggressive than the originals from the USA. And this is where Colin Hicks is the best example. He recorded for Pye Nixa in England and toured extensively, but was overshadowed by his highly successful brother Tommy Steele. Through interesting circumstances he came to Italy, where he became a celebrated Rock 'n' Roll star and even appeared in several movies! TRACK LISTING 01 Giddy Up A Ding Dong 02 Empty Arms Blues 03 Wild Eyes And Tender Lips 04 Sexy Rock (from the film 'Ombre Blanche') 05 Mean Woman Blues 06 Oh Boy! 07 Loves Made A Fool Of You 08 Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On 09 Hanging Around 10 Tallahassee Lassie 11 Jambalaya (On The Bayou) 12 Blue Moon Of Kentucky 13 That Little Girl Of Mine 14 Lea Iea (from the film 'Europa di notte') 15 Robot Man 16 Put Me Down 17 Lovin' Up A Storm 18 A Teenager In Love 19 Book Of Love 20 Hallelujah, I Love her so 21 Brand New Cadillac 22 All Because Of You 23 Impazzivo Per Te 24 Johnny B Goode 25 Tutti Frutti 26 Twenty Flight Rock 27 Hang Up My Rock And Roll Shoes
