50th Erection I - Collected Works 1967-1970 (Limited To 300 Copies) [VINYL] Box set

Band:SPERM
Album:50th Erection I - Collected Works 1967-1970 (Limited To 300 Copies) [VINYL] Box set
Label:SVART
Format:Vinyl LP box set
Genre:Electronic/Experimental

Finnish ultra-radical and scandalous performance group/proto-noise band.

1967 saw the birth of the notorious Helsinki ensemble The Sperm, led by Mattijuhani Koponen and Pekka Airaksinen and with such members as J.O. Mallander and Markus Heikkerö. Airaksinen had previously written some experimental pieces with the equipment provided and built by Erkki Kurenniemi for The University of Helsinki Electronic Music Studio (where also composers Henrik Otto Donner and Erkki Salmenhaara had been working).

The Sperm's performances concentrated, alongside music, on breaking sexual taboos, and Mattijuhani  Koponen eventually had to spend some time at a correctional facility (the fuss was all about Koponen's alleged public copulation with an anonymous woman while lying on a grand piano at a performance), since this sort of avantgardism seemed to be too much for the establishment of time. 4LP Set.

Suuliekki [VINYL]

Band:SAMMAL
Album:Suuliekki [VINYL]
Label:SVART
Format:Vinyl LP
Genre:Prog Rock

Finland´s Sammal´s third album Suuliekki, continues where the critically acclaimed Myrskyvaroitus left off, not
following in it´s footsteps, but rather taking a turn into uncharted territory, as this was the first time the band
really had to start writing from scratch, after taking a little break, from playing shows and composing. The material
never comes too easy, and many ideas are thrown into the “some other project” or “this simply isn´t good
enough” bin. Song sketches have to sort of boil in a pot, different ingredients mix and flavours merge over time,
before they can really be called songs, or compositions if you will. On this record maybe more than ever, each
individual band member’s musical taste takes center stage at times, without stealing the spotlight from the one
thing that´s always been most important to Sammal. The song!

TOINEN TOISTA

Band:MALADY
Album:TOINEN TOISTA
Label:SVART
Format:cd
Genre:Prog Rock

Malady’s eponymous album was a deserved underground hit, a beautifully realised piece of original Finnish  progressive rock which had its roots very strongly in the sound of the early 70s. The second album Toinen toista, out in February 2018, goes deeper. Composed and arranged as a collaborative piece by the band, Toinen toista has enough detail to keep one captivated for repeated listens. The music is glazed with the kind of homegrown sweetness only vintage Scandinavian Prog Rock can offer but its insides are complex, with layer upon layer of things to discover. Comments lyricist Juuso Jylhänlehto, “This album is open to many interpretations and laden with symbolism, but at its core lays the basic questions of being human and the
transient nature of things.”
Much more is to be expected of Malady in the future. The talented quintet sets upon a number of shows after album release in the spring.

Dark Days

Band:SULA BASSANA
Album:Dark Days
Label:SULATRON RECORDS
Format:CD
Genre:Kraut / Space Rock

After hearing not much about multiinstrumentalist Dave Schmidt (Sula Bassana) for a long time, and after his focus was on Electric Moon all the time, the long awaited new space-rock masterpiece is finally ready! The space-rock legend recorded and produced all the stuff again alone – mostly. Psych-fans know Schmidt from his other bands and projects: Electric Moon, Zone Six, Krautzone, Liquid Visions, Psychedelic Monsterjam, Weltraumstaunen, Suedstern44, etc...

The long awaited album, within you can explore your innermost and foreign worlds, can be seen as consistant progression and as follower of the space-rock-monster „The Night“ (released in 2009). About 70 minutes the listener gets pulled into a vortex of fuzzy guitars, repeatative rhythms, shimmering organs and synthesizers – what will chain you and not let you go again... Sprawling space-rock meets crunchy psych sound and experimental kraut-elements.

Topeka Jam: Live 1974 [VINYL]

Band:TRUTH AND JANEY
Album:Topeka Jam: Live 1974 [VINYL]
Label:LION PRODUCTIONS
Format:Vinyl LP
Genre:Psych/Garage Reissues

Double album of unearthed live recordings from 1974 by legendary Midwestern underground hard rock trio TRUTH & JANEY, captured here stretching out with extended jam sessions over several nights in Topeka, Kansas.

Excavated from the archives of a long-time roadie comes this double album collection of live recordings made over several nights in Topeka, Kansas in 1974. Celebrated Iowa hard rock trio Truth & Janey are captured here doing what they did best, stretching out into raw, extended jams featuring heavy guitar action from Billylee Janey, booming fuzz bass from Steve Bock, with Denis Bunce locked in the zone behind his drum kit. 'Midnight Horsemen,' originally released as as 3-minute single in 1972, is featured here as a side-long 22-minute jam—a prime example of vintage Truth and Janey. Included are several songs previously unreleased in any way (live or studio), as well as early versions of 'Down the Road' and 'My Mind,' from their 1976 underground hard rock classic debut album, "No Rest for the Wicked."

Limited Edition of 500 copies for Lion Productions.
