MASTER - LP

Band:MASTER
Album:MASTER - LP
Label:DOOMENTIA
Format:VINYL LP
Genre:Death Metal

Even though this was the first official full-length recorded by Paul Speckmann - backed up by the soon to be cult line-up of former DEATH STRIKE comrade Chris Mittleburn on guitar and Bill Schmidt on drums – MASTER were already a revered name in the underground. Although very few recordings of theirs existed, as rough sounding as they were, those gems had already achieved legendary status. Distributed through the tapetrading infamous network by guys still in their late teens who would soon prove to be as equally important for the rise of the extreme metal scene such as Shaun Glass (future BROKEN HOPE and SINDROME), Mick Harris (NAPALM DEATH) or Chuck Schuldiner (DEATH), they basically single-handed launched the basis of things to come and for zillions of bands throughout the world to follow. So when the future German mammoth label NUCLEAR BLAST finally ended up signing the band in 1989, all they had to was to dig back in the great collection of songs which had never been properly recorded. Packed with songs still legendary to this day (“Pay To Die”, “Funeral Bitch” or the instrumental “Terrorizer”) and a storming rendition of BLACK SABBATH’s “Children Of The Grave”, MASTER self-titled album is still, hands down more than two decades (!) after its initial release, one of death-metal ‘desert island’ album. Recorded at Solid Sounds in Illinois but mixed at the already high-profiled Morrisound Studio facility in Tampa Florida by Scott Burns who had already left his stamp on such milestones as NAPALM DEATH (‘Harmony’ Corruption’), DEATH (‘Leprosy’) or DEICIDE (‘Deicide’), it is now available again on vinyl format for the first time in twenty years, with the usual DOOMENTIA high-standard policy. So “strike your idols down/and wear the Master’s crown” goddamn it!

ON THE SEVENTH DAY GOD CREATED MASTER - LP

Band:MASTER
Album:ON THE SEVENTH DAY GOD CREATED MASTER - LP
Label:DOOMENTIA
Format:VINYL LP
Genre:Death Metal

In the middle of the now quite epic discography of MASTER, ‘On The Seventh Day, God Created… Master’ always stood out like some kind of bizarre sore thumb. Released in 1991 at the height of the death-metal popularity and recorded at the then mandatory Morrisound studios in Florida with of course Mr Scott Burns seated the producer’s chair, this was meant to be the band ‘breakthrough’ album. But as usual with Paul Speckmann and co.s, fate intervened and this wasn’t meant to be, even though if in the end, it sold more than 25,000 copies in its first year alone. It nevertheless remains a favourite among fans, not only because it features the track “Heathen” but also because it is the band only recording with Paul Masdival from CYNIC (who was barely twenty years old back then) on guitar, who was called upon at the 11th after former sixstringer Jim Martinelli was fired by their manager only to days after arriving in Florida! It also sees John Tardy from OBITUARY guesting on two tracks plus former one time MORBID ANGEL bass player John Ortega doing leads on “Whose Left To Decide” and is overall maybe the closest MASTER had ever been to become a full-on death-metal machine. But by the time Speckmann had hired two new members and got set to record its follow-up ‘Collection Of Souls’, their sound had once again shifted to a much more in-your-face and punkish sound. But that’s another story…

FALL OUT

Band:FRONT LINE ASSEMBLY
Album:FALL OUT
Label:PLANETWORKS
Format:CD
Genre:Industrial/EBM

Featuring three brand new tracks, and nine remixes, Fallout is a complete battery for the senses.

Frontline Assembly reclaimed its throne last year with the release of Artificial Soldier and the world tour following it. Not wanting to rest on their laurels, the band is prepping for a second assault. A brand new club invasion is imminent for the spring on two levels. The first wave will consist of the introduction of a brand new remix album onto the dancefloors. Featuring three brand new tracks, and nine remixes, Fallout is a complete battery for the senses. It has been deemed to cause exhaustion from excessive dancing, hearing loss from listening to it too loud, and vertigo from its mind-blowing musical sequences. As if all of that weren’t enough, FLA’s final wave is to make sure Fallout was effective by sweeping through in concert to finish off any survivors.

RESTLESS..

Band:THE ARTERIES
Album:RESTLESS..
Label:SPECIALIST SUBJECT
Format:VINYL LP
Genre:Punk / Hardcore

Restless is a new six-song EP from Swansea punks The Arteries.

Written in the wake of their second album Dead Sea (2010), Restless is a spitfire response to two more years of persistent touring – everywhere from ex-Soviet squats to the deeps of the bible belt – and was recorded live to tape on September 2012 in old mining town Llangennech, Wales.

Restless naturally picks up where Dead Sea left off. It’s fast, dark and angry but somehow still seems hopeful – a heartfelt rant at the current state of music and life as nobody in South Wales.

With UK/Euro tours and more records planned for 2013, The Arteries aren’t slowing down any time soon. They’re just getting more pissed, and this ep is their own kind of protest.

For fans of: Descendents, NOFX, Hot Snakes and AC/DC - One sided 12” limited to 666 copies on Black Vinyl with Etched B-side

FURNACE REDUX

Band:DOWNLOAD
Album:FURNACE REDUX
Label:PLANETWORKS
Format:CD
Genre:Industrial/EBM

cEvin Key and Dwayne Goettel’s first outing as Download showed a progression into industrial/electronic territory far more experimental than even Skinny Puppy’s stranger moments. With the help of Phil Western and Mark Spybey, “Furnace” plays out like a soundtrack to a postapocalyptic wasteland. The music ranges from frenetic industrial beats to textural Genesis P. Orridge’s vocals on “Omniman,” “Lebanull,” and “Marred” that add a frightening quality, sounding both malevolent and mechanical, giving it the sense of a soundtrack to an unmade movie.

An album full of dissonance and beauty and Metropolis Records is proud to reissue it now with the bonus Re:Dux tracks as a second disc.
