DELIRIO DEI SENSI

Band:VIBRAVOID
Album:DELIRIO DEI SENSI
Label:GO DOWN
Format:CD
Genre:Psych/Garage

Turn On! Tune In! And Drop Out! …t

The credo of Düsseldorf’s Psychedelic and Acid Rockers – or put simply Vibravoid´s music is faithfully devoted to it. Vibravoid are rightly regarded as inherritants of the classic Psychedelic and Acid Rock as it is difficult to find comparisons with other temporary bands. It does not surprise that the group recorded quickly their 7th studio album “Delirio Dei Sensi“ (Delirium Of Senses) during their last tour of Italy, in only 2 days! Campaigned with milestones of the 1960s Vibravoid also present brand new and self penned compositions, that rival the great era of Pop music! Loaded with Underground Hits like “Colour Your Mind“ by Australian Neo-Psychedelic heroes Tyrnaround from 1986 the Vibravoid even enter new territories – for the first the time Vibravoid play a song from the age of the “Neon-Tube”! Especially this shows the group´s musical understanding; this song could have been a big hit in 1967… easily!Vibravoid do not even fear the French Chanson and present a fuzzed up version of „Poupée De Cire“ – now we know why Napoleon visionary chose Dusseldorf as residency! Deeply rooted in the typical sound of Psychedelic Rock and their Hometown “Delirio Dei Sensi“ sounds so refreshing that it easily explains how Psychedelic Rock should sound like!

RIYL ; Syd´s Pink Floyd, MC5, The Seeds, NEU! And Kraftwerk but the typical and individual sound of Vibravoid is always to the fore. Psychedelic blueprints like „The Empty Sky“ and „The Golden Esacalator“ have never been presented like this since the 1960s – while “Listen Can´t You Hear?“could easily be confused with a great lost track of the early Doors!

ASTRAL SABBAT

Band:JESS AND THE ANCIENT ONES
Album:ASTRAL SABBAT
Label:SVART
Format:CD
Genre:Stoner/Doom/Occult/Sludge Metal

Although it’s been only nine months since the release of their brilliant and spellbinding debut album, Finland’s Occult Rock masters JESS AND THE ANCIENT ONES have already moved on, and new EP "Astral Sabbat" is expected to shatter most of the preconceptions some already hold against the band.

Once again recorded with Swedish sonic wizard Tore Stjerna in their hometown Kuopio, ‘Astral Sabbat’ sees them pushing forward the boundaries of the sound established on their first full-length and forging their own path, as personified by the rather unusual choice of cover song: ‘Long And Lonesome Road’, originally written and recorded by Dutch rock outfit Shocking Blue, mostly known for their mega-hit ‘Venus’.

One of the leading lights in Occult Rock today...

VICTOR GRIFFIN`S IN-GRAVED

Band:VICTOR GRIFFIN`S IN GRAVED
Album:VICTOR GRIFFIN`S IN-GRAVED
Label:SVART
Format:CD
Genre:Stoner/Doom/Occult/Sludge Metal

New band by Pentagram guitar wizard Victor Griffin, with guest musicians from Goatsnake, Pentagram, Place of Skulls….

While closing the books on Pentagram and Place of Skulls in 2012, Victor Griffin invited drummer Pete Campbell to join him in the studio to record a new album. With no name, no members, and a batch of unfinished material… they cranked out 8 tracks in just under a week and Pete went home. But much was left unfinished. An invitation was then extended to some of the best bass players around with Guy Pinhas, Ron Holzner, Greg Turley, Marty Swaney, and Dan Lively accepting. Meanwhile, keyboardist Mike Puleo was making his contribution. Then with great enthusiasm… the timing was right for Jeff “Oly” Olson to join and bring the Hammond organ alive on the rest of the album!

File under "Doom Legend"!

SAMMAL

Band:SAMMAL
Album:SAMMAL
Label:SVART
Format:CD
Genre:Prog Rock

Sammal is that good old friend you've never met. Free from the confines of a scene or part of any genre wave, like the wild moss their name translates to. They have conjured a rare album, quite of its own but nostalgic in only the best way. A band that manages to capture a sense of golden moments in Finnish music, naturally and without pretensions. Vocals that soar confidently and warmly with beautiful lyrics which, though sung entirely in Finnish, are entirely relatable due to the passion in the voice and beauty of the compositions, made more arcane by the sentiments the sound evokes. Lyrics translated inside the booklet are a magic discovery of a band that inspires more about their culture and heart than most well known Finnish bands today. Touching on these deep themes, rarely does a voice emote and sound so ubiquitous or wiser in modern rock. Through their riffs, solos and vintage keys, you can find traces of everything that made Love Records and Finnish Prog so beloved, not only in their home country but abroad. Sammal give the same impression of a band Finns can be proud of, while doing a great service to their musical culture and heritage. They have a masterful natural command of classic rock music that surpasses their age with nods to Thin Lizzy, Camel, Birth Control, Budgie and the epic guitar journeys of the Allman Brothers, while all along carving their own unique path. Redefining the term "modern classic" in an age of lesser pretenders. One of the greatest modern interpretations of classic Scandinavian Progressive Rock we have ever come across. Sink into the forest rock moss with Sammal!

Album:ROAD TO ATLAS
Label:Crusher
Format:VINYL 10 INCH
Genre:Psych/Garage

Swedish psychedelic rock band Dean Allen Foyd released their debut album The Sounds Can Be So Cruel in March 2012; a record described as a “rollicking wild psychedelic thrill-ride” (Shindig! Magazine) and “the best kind of swirling psychedelic rock” (Gaffa).

Dean Allen Foyd is now digging even deeper into the psychedelic music with their brand new five-track 10-inch vinyl EP Road To Atlas, out March 1st 2013. On release date Dean Allen Foyd will start their three weeks tour criss-crossing Europe.

On stage Dean Allen Foyd plays a different set at each concert during which the songs change their arrangements, spontaneous improvisations alternate with lengthy organ and guitar solos and Canada-native singer and guitar player Francis Rencoret moves like a dervish in trance on stage.

DO YOU BURN?

Band:POWERDOVE
Album:DO YOU BURN?
Label:African Tape
Format:CD
Genre:Avant-Garde

Annie Lewandowski comes from Minnesota, a place full of things that are long and longer: church services, dinner tables, and worry lines, to name a few. Somebody said there are ten thousand lakes there; if that’s true, each of them shows up in some little way in Annie’s songs. She writes under the name Powerdove, which began as a band of one in California in 2007. A document of this brief solo era can be found on her EP Live from the Maybeck House (s/r, 2010). Before long, powerdove evolved into three; that trio (with Alex Vittum, percussion, and Jason Hoopes, bass) recorded Be Mine in 2009 (Circle into Square, 2010).

On her new album, Do you Burn?, many of the songs were written along the scuzzy River Itchen in Hampshire, England, where Annie played concerts and went on the occasional European tour with Curtis McKinney, a laptop composer who uses Supercollider. After this year spent down by the sea, she returned to the US, settling in upstate New York and writing the rest of the material on the new album. When it came time to record, Annie enlisted the help of an old California friend, John Dieterich (Deerhoof), and a new French one, Thomas Bonvalet (L’Ocelle Mare). Three great improvisers, they worked fast. The result lies somewhere near the Marble Index, David Sylvian, Diane Cluck, and the Curtains (of which Annie is a former member). The roughness and fluidity of these tracks owe to their origin in mostly live takes, which have also lent a certain intima- cy to every sound: these are little songs to love, but there is also great mystery here, and even menace.
