TELL IT TO ME

Band:VARIOUS ARTISTS
Album:TELL IT TO ME
Label:BEAR FAMILY
Format:CD
Genre:OLD-TIMEY/TRADITIONAL COUNTRY MUSIC

East Tennessee s influential 1920s-era location recording sessions. Featuring 26 recordings by 26 different musical acts that were active in the late 1920s, Tell It To Me presents a diverse and dynamic overview of Appalachia's vernacular music at the cusp of the Great Depression. While representing a range of genres and styles and showcasing both secular and sacred material, this album is thematically unified by the fact that all of the tracks hail from commercial location recording sessions held by Columbia Records in Johnson City, Tennessee, during successive Octobers in 1928 and 1929. This album documents timeless performances from those sessions and bolsters recent assertions by discerning aficionados of 78 RPM records that those sessions generated a particularly memorable canon of historical recordings. 1-CD with 40-page booklet, 26 tracks. Total playing time 77:27 min. This release is intended to demonstrate what music historian Ed Ward meant when he tweeted "Johnson City Sessions: Lots more fun than the Bristol Sessions. Fewer stars, more insight into a vanished world.'' Intended to distill onto a single CD the ground-breaking research found on Bear Family Records' award-winning 4-CD boxed set The Johnson City Sessions (BCD16083), released in 2013, Tell It To Me features a new essay in which Grammy Award-nominated liner notes writer Ted Olson describes the Johnson City sessions, sets them into historical context, and assesses their lasting historical impact. Coming with state-of-the-art sound engineering generally associated with releases from Bear Family, these nine-decade-old recordings sound warm and clear--as if they were made yesterday. TRACK LISTING 01 Tell It To Me - Grant Brothers & Their Music 02 Home Town Blues - Roane County Ramblers 03 - Johnson City Blues - Clarence Greene 04 Louise - Proximity String Quartet 05 The Battleship Maine - Richard Harold 06 Roll On Buddy - Charlie Bowman & His Brothers 07 Old Lady And The Devil - Bill & Belle Reed 08 I'll Be Ready When The Bridegroom Comes - McVay & Johnson 09 When The Roses Bloom for the Bootlegger - Earl Shirkey & Roy Harper 10 I Ain't A Bit Drunk - George Roark 11 - Just Over The River - Garland Brothers & Grinstead 12 Green Valley Waltz - McCartt Brothers & Patterson 13 Pride Of The Ball - Blalock & Yates, a.m.o

Album:WE SHALL ALL BE REUNITED

Format:CD
Genre:OLD-TIMEY/TRADITIONAL COUNTRY MUSIC

East Tennessee s influential 1920s-era location recording sessions. We Shall All Be Reunited: Revisiting the Bristol Sessions, 1927-1928 casts new light on an old story - that of the 1927 Bristol sessions. Conducted by Victor Records A&R producer Ralph Peer, this seminal event from the early years of commercial recording in the 1980s was nick-named the Big Bang of Country Music, while the city in which the event occurred - Bristol, Tennessee/Virginia - was officially dubbed the Birthplace of Country Music. Featuring 15 key recordings made in Bristol during late July and early August 1927 - including first-ever recordings by the now-legendary Carter Family and Jimmie Rodgers. 1-CD with 44-page booklet, 26 tracks. Total playing time approx. 78 min. Memorable, varied recordings from the late 20s Bristol sessions by a range of Appalachian musicians. The recordings were painstakingly remastered in 2020 by sound engineer Marcus Heumann. The CD features an evocative 44-page insert booklet designed by art director Mychael Gerstenberger. New liner notes written by Ted Olson in which the 1927 sessions are reassessed based on recent scholarly research and discussion. EXO

Band:TINEIDAE
Album:EXO
Label:Cryo Chamber
Format:CDD
Genre:DARK AMBIENT/AMBIENT

Tineidae (Poland) serves us a space ambient album thick with analogue sweeps and evolving walls of sound. The derelict mothership is massive, its silent shadow swallowing your cutter-ship as you connect with the airlock. Inside, rusted bulkheads sing like whales from deep within as they reverberate with lumbering creaks. Your flashlight flickers in the dark as you wipe the smudge off a wall-mounted map. Better get the power online or you'll never be able to access the backup logs. NG-section is two floors down. Time for another spacewalk.

DREAM CHAMBERS

Band:MOUNT SHRINE & ALPHAXONE
Album:DREAM CHAMBERS
Label:Cryo Chamber
Format:CDD
Genre:DARK AMBIENT/AMBIENT

Mount Shrine and Alphaxone group up on this collaborative album exploring the delicate bridge between reality and dreams. A soothing journey served through crackling field recordings, deep basses and harmonic textural padwork. Here in the sacred recesses of the mind rests the never ending palace, where reality and dreams meet. Where rivers of trauma cleanse dirty drains. Where damp hallways and underpasses run through great libraries filled with every thought and emotion that has come to pass. Where the ancient gatekeepers protect the sacred grounds with swords of fire as dark tendrils slither their way towards the core of innocence.

SPIN TO WIN

Band:HUMAN TOYS
Album:SPIN TO WIN
Label:TOPSY TURVY
Format:LP
Genre:PUNK/ROCK/GARAGE/SYNTH

They are sexy, they are powerful, they are subversive! HUMAN TOYS is a collision of raw rock'n'roll sound and electronic beats. Poupée Mecanik (vocals, theremin) has a penchant for playing with female archetypes: subversion is the name of the game, flavored with a generous dose of irony. New guitarist Jon Von adds the punk energy of the RIP OFFS; the band has never been so wild! Meanwhile, Florian Cité toils in his secret laboratory, perfecting the synthetic rhythm section. The band navigates the mad road through a garage punk musical landscape, illuminated by the flickering incandescence of sexploitation films. HUMAN TOYS have musically reformed since their previous record “Excuse My French” on Records Ad Nauseam and while one may find a lot less electronic/electroclashinfluence in their music now, there is definitely a higher dose of wild punkrock! Whoever has had the pleasure to witness one of their fantastic live‐shows around the world so far knows that they deliver fullon power and punkrock energy with a tough and seductive attitude
