LIVE AT ROADBURN 2010

Band:YOB
Album:LIVE AT ROADBURN 2010
Label:ROADBURN
Format:2LP
Genre:DOOM METAL

Repress of the long sold out 2011 release on Roadburn Records. Recorded at Roadburn Festival 2010 Also available in the box set Yob Live At Roadburn together with The Unreal Never Lived Live At Roadburn 2012 2LP. Epic, crushing, and heavy beyond words, YOB has achieved legendary status in recent years due to their unmatched aesthetic and incredible body of work. Formed in 1996 in Eugene, Oregon under the leadership of doom metal mastermind Mike Scheidt on guitars and vocals, the group initially released a three song demo tape in 2000 that garnered them international attention. Drawing comparisons to groups like Neurosis, Sleep and Electric Wizard, YOB succeeded in developing modern sounding doom metal that hearkened back to the classics. In 2002, YOB released their debut album Elaborations of Carbon followed by Catharsis in 2003, a three song record that clocked in at a colossal 50 minutes. The buzz about YOB was beginning to grow and the trio began to tour more extensively. Remaining quite prolific during this period, YOB continued to release an album each year with The Illusion of Motion coming in 2004 followed by The Unreal Never Lived in 2005. Despite all the momentum, YOB disbanded in 2006. In 2008 the band returned from hiatus and has remained strong ever since with Travis Foster on drums and Aaron Rieseberg on bass. Reinvigorated and reinspired, YOB released The Great Cessation in 2009. It was doom with a psychedelic twist, a sound that Pitchfork referred to as cosmic doom. At this point in their career, the band found increased exposure in the media, with The New York Times going so far as to call them one of the best bands in North America after a performance at Scion Rock Festival. A BEACON IN THE HUSK

Band:ABYSSAL
Album:A BEACON IN THE HUSK
Label:Profound Lore
Format:2LP
Genre:Death Metal

Otherworldly mysterious UK dark ambient death metal entity ABYSSAL have completed work on their fourth opus A Beacon In The Husk . Standing as the most colossal and ambitious ABYSSAL offering yet, A Beacon In The Husk stretches the ABYSSAL sound into even darker, more abstract, noiser, and progressive realms than anything within the ABYSSAL repertoire. Four years following the acclaimed Antikatastaseis observation, an album in which saw ABYSSAL take a slightly more structured approach to the enveloping death metal horror and one that brought awareness to ABYSSAL as one of the most prominent death metal artists emerging from the UK, A Beacon In The Husk brings the audial terror to a whole new suffocating and overbearing complex level, even at times making it the most outlier ABYSSAL album to date. Because of such a characteristic implemented, ABYSSAL s vision becomes that much more unnerving and chilling with A Beacon In The Husk .

THE GREAT SOLAR HUNTER

Band:CONSUMMATION
Album:THE GREAT SOLAR HUNTER
Label:Profound Lore
Format:CD
Genre:DEATH/BLACK METAL

Australian death / black metal unit Consummation have completed work on their debut full-length album The Great Solar Hunter. Consummation is the brainchild of vocalist / guitarist Craig Young (ex-Impetuous Ritual) who is joined by drummer David Hayley (of technical death metal wizards Psycroptic) and bassist Joel Rademaker. Alongside this central trio, the album also features guitarist John Gossard (Dispirit /Asunder / The Gault / Weakling) among it's ranks, lending his guitar work to this colossal work in helping to elevate it to an even darker, more warped and epic plateau. This album succeeds the band's 2017 Ritual Severance EP (Invictus Productions), which was the follow-up to their 2012 self-titled demo. The Great Solar Hunter is the result of the band's serpentine-like build up, since inception, to a impenetrably demonic and monolithic sonic vastness. The band's elongated tracks are a key element to this sound-dark, murky, atmosphere-drenched dissonance and twisted guitar riff mutations flow through tense passages, building and culminating in epic and moving moments of melancholic majesty and triumph. It is these elements that give the band their sense of singularity and noteworthiness within the mire of extreme death /black metal.

UNDER THE RED LIGHT SHINE

Band:JESS BY THE LAKE
Album:UNDER THE RED LIGHT SHINE
Label:SVART
Format:CD
Genre:Classic Rock

Jasmin Saarela, known as the enigmatic leader of the cult band Jess and the Ancient Ones, is preparing for the release of her solo debut. To be released under the moniker Jess By The Lake, the solo album Under The Red Light Shine is a more down to earth take on the traditions of rock music than the acid-heavy guitar walls and cosmic dimensions of her main band. Jess By The Lake's building blocks are more organic, with a focus on nature mysticism and a curiously Finnish brand of melancholy. The music flows unrestrained, with a few tasteful nods to genre forebearers such as Danzig or David Bowie hidden here and there. aarela describes how the songwriting process has stemmed from a need to create and ponder one's existence and surroundings. - "Music for me represents constant progress and a means to get by in our existence in this dimension. I've written these songs on the guitar or piano. I first started my solo project with Timo from Jess and the Ancient Ones, but eventually gathered a solo band around me from people at my school. Saarela considers the album a paean to nature and the human mind, also to an indescribable longing, so well known to all romantic artists of the past centuries. - "I named the project based on the fact that I've lived by a lake for more or less my entire lake. I've grown in the forest and felt a strong, unchanged bond with nature through the years." Under The Red Light Shine is out on June 7th on CD, LP and digital formats.
