OZ KNOZZ

Band:RUFF MIX
Album:OZ KNOZZ
Label:SHROOM ANGEL
Format:LP
Genre:HARD ROCK/STONER/PROG

Formed in 1969 in Houston, TX, Oz Knozz's original crew included multi-instrumentalists Jack Alford, Bill Massey and Duane Massey. Alford left the group in 1971 and was replaced by drummer Marty Naul, while the next year the trio was joined by guitarist Richard Heath. The band had also a three-man horn section, which was dropped quite fast, although horns remained a part of the band's sound, even on their rare and epochal 1975 private press debut ''Ruff Mix,” released on the band’s own Ozone label. “Ruff Mix” mainly grooves in Hard Rock territory—the second track 'Peanut Butter Yoni' sounds a bit like Judas Priest with a proto-Metal feeling. Yet the album also has elements of Progressive Rock, Horn Rock and Pomp Rock. Like most bands of the era, the idea may have been to take a shot at a few different styles to see if something would stick… the theory being that a major label might hear the private album by chance and sign said band so they could open for Led Zeppelin or Foghat's next US tour… or something like that. What separates Oz Knozz from other bands is a strong compositional component; they have plenty of original ideas and muster superb instrumentation. The guitar work ranges from hard and powerful to melodic and bluesy, and is supported by some great keyboard, including aweinspiring organ and synth waves. The three-part 15-minute 'Doodley Squat’ suite features heavy dual keyboard parts, crunchy guitars and expressive vocals; the result is a OZ KNOZZ "Ruff Mix” terrific hard prog track with lot of energy. Strange to say about a hard rock album, for many the standout track is the groovy and infectious horn rocker ‘Love Poem,' which sounds like it easily could have been from 1969. High energy and impressive songwriting. Love it.

LIVE ARCHIVE:VOL 2.THE BLACK SWAN, SHEFFIELD

Band:BRINSLEY SCHWARZ
Album:LIVE ARCHIVE:VOL 2.THE BLACK SWAN, SHEFFIELD
Label:Vogon
Format:CD
Genre:Rock

Widely regarded as one of the best live bands on the 1970s Pub Rock circuit, Brinsley Schwarz released a string of classic albums to critical, if not commercial, acclaim. Digging deep into his personal archive, Ian Gomm, the band’s guitarist and songwriter, has unearthed a wealth of live recordings that capture the Brinsleys at their best. Live Archive: Vol 2. The Black Swan, Sheffield was recorded on 1st September 1974 and captures Brinsley Schwarz playing an intimate pub venue to an enthusiastic audience. Recorded direct to tape with no mixing or post‐production, this recording captures the atmosphere of a great night out down the pub with music from one of the best live jukeboxes you could hope to see and hear. The fidelity may not be hi‐fi but that’s more than made up by the Brinsley incendiary performance.

PHANTOM LAKE: NORTHERN GOTHIC 3

Band:GREEN PAJAMAS, THE
Album:PHANTOM LAKE: NORTHERN GOTHIC 3
Label:SOUND EFFECT
Format:DLP
Genre:PSYCH-ROCK/INDIE

First ever vinyl edition for the Green Pajamas latest! Deluxe double vinyl issued in limited black and color run, courtesy of Sound Effect Records of Athens, Greece! Phantom Lake: Northern Gothic 3 is the final installment of the trilogy which began in 2002 with Northern Gothic (Camera Obscura). It was followed up by, Box of Secrets: Northern Gothic 2 (Hidden Agenda) in 2007. When Laura Weller and Jeff Kelly were thinking about where their next project might go, Laura introduced the idea of writing songs inspired by childhood. She had grown up in a neighborhood called Phantom Lake, memories of which eventually inspired four songs on this record. Jeff also drew from youth, remembering trips to Lost Lake, about twelve miles out of Shelton, Washington, where relatives had a cabin, as well as many vacations to the Washington coast over the years. Eric Lichter remembers a family from his past in the song, “The Rosebergs,” about a catastrophic tsunami roaring in off of the Pacific. These are the same landscapes that populated many of the songs on the two previous Northern Gothic albums. The grey skies, the endless evergreens, the “black and blue moon” and “a thousand crows” which hang over small lakeside or West Coast towns populated by the lonesome, the unlucky-in-loves and even a few slightly eerie children. This is a dark album. It is about obsession and sorrow and murder and too much whisky. The characters that permeate these songs exist in the shadows, often in the margins of society. These lost souls of the northern gothic world of Phantom Lake remind us of what it is to be human.

TA TJUREN VID HORNEN

Band:MAGNOLIA
Album:TA TJUREN VID HORNEN
Label:Transubstans
Format:CDD
Genre:BLUES ROCK/HEAVY

Three years passed since Swedish Transubstans Records veterans MAGNOLIA released their outstanding album “På Djupt Vatten”. In 2019, they return stronger than ever with the brand-new effort “Ta Tjuren Vid Hornen”. One of MAGNOLIA’s strongest traits as part of the Swedish hard rock scene is their incredible ability to tailor the sound, vibe and heaviness for each album. With “Ta Tjuren Vid Hornen”, their 7th ablum, MAGNOLIA has taken one step closer to the heavier part of the 70’s, while clear influences of the early 70’s progressive scene are clearly present. Fans of early MOUNTAIN, CREAM and even label mates ABRAMIS BRAMA are definitely recommended to let their record collection expand with the help of MAGNOLIA’s new album – it will fit right in.

MAHANDINI

Band:DEWA BUDJANA
Album:MAHANDINI
Label:SIREENA
Format:LP
Genre:PROG ROCK/FUSION

We are very proud to release the new album of the exceptional Indonesian guitarist Dewa Budjana in a limited vinyl edition. As usual with the bustling guitar wizard, he has written all the compositions himself and in turn has collected a number of high-profile studio tracks for the recordings. Jordan Rudess is known by the prog band DREAM THEATER, Marco Minneman plays the drums with JOE SATRIANI and ADRIAN BELEW, and bassist Mohini Dey plays with STEVE VAI. Budjana also managed to win John Frusciante (ex- RED HOT CHILLI PEPPERS) for this album, not to mention guitar ace Mike Stern (MILES DAVIS, BLOOD SWEAT & TEARS, BILLY COBHAM). What a dream cast - and the colleagues make it playful to create such wonderful music that one thinks they have always played together. In fact, they only came together for these studio recordings. One bike makes the next - and the result is yet another peak in modern Progressive Jazz. No wonder if so much concentrated ability meets each other. With "Mahandini Acoustic" Dewa Budjana even donates a bonus track that only exists on this vinyl record!

TENDER

Band:ELECTRIC FAMILY, THE
Album:TENDER
Label:SIREENA
Format:CD + DVD
Genre:PROG/ALTERNATIVE/FOLK ROCK/PSYCH

"Tender" from 1999, the second and most successful album of the ELECTRIC FAMILY, is being re-released. The 20 Years Anniversary Set also includes the DVD "The Making Of Tender". In 1996 THE ELECTRIC FAMILY first came together for a gig at the Burg Herzberg Festival. With Volker Kahr's (ex-Grobschnitt), Dieter Serfas (Amon Düül II), Harry Payuta (Tav Falco), Jochen Schoberth and Torsten Glade band founder Tom 'The Perc' Redecker had an illustrious group on stage, which was also to find on the debut album" Family Show "in 1997. This album caused quite a stir, but the attention of the following second album "Tender" reached a new peak in 1999. Redecker had extended the band to other greats of the German rock scene, the former Ärzte-member Hagen Liebing contributed the bass, Tex Morton (Lolitas, Pseiko Lüde) met Willi Pape, formerly of Krautrock legend Thirsty Moon, and Uwe "The Voodoo" Knak of Philip Boa's Voodoo Club came into the studio as well as Jo Hielscher (end of the seventies with the Hagener Ramblers behind the drums) and Franz Powalla, well-known from Lokomotive Kreuzberg, accompanied by Peter Apel, Torsten Glade, Rolf Kirschbaum, Volker Kahrs, Harry Payuta, Jochen Schoberth and Tom "The Perc" Redecker. Evelyn Gramel was the first female voice on a Family album! So much concentrated musical experience just has to bring something big, and that's what happened when the extended family entered the two studios in Bremen and Berlin to record the 10 titles for "Tender". What already hinted at "Family Show" came to full bloom on "Tender": a wild mix of styles ranging from folk rock ("Telemark Landing", "More & More", "Danger Girl") to Progressive Rock ("Betancuria Part 1 - 3 ") and Psychedelia (" Bricks of Time ") to the dusty desert rock (" Candyman ", Left For Dead), held together by Redecker's abysmal voice.

THE BEST OF CAROLA

Band:PERC, THE
Album:THE BEST OF CAROLA
Label:SIREENA
Format:CD
Genre:MINIMAL/INDUSTRIAL/PSYCH

For the seventh time, Tom THE PERC Redecker opens his sound archive, in which many delicacies are slumbering from around 40 years of underground music "Made in Germany". "Electric Kindergarten" is the name of the evaluation, which is numbered in loose order and pulled into the light of day. Early shots with Gipsy Rover, Pissrinne, Kühe im Nebel, The Perc Meets The Hiddle Ghentleman, Taras Bulba and The Electric Famile - Tom meticulously captured and collected everything. The tapes are gently reworked but not digitally disfigured. It should be ensured that the respective indie sound of the seventies, eighties and nineties comes across authentically - a documentation of independent German rock music! Since it can already rustle and bruzeln! Vol. 7 is dedicated exclusively to the analogue keyboard Casiotone MT 400V, affectionately called Carola, which Tom bought in 1986 in Bremen. The sound of Carola is unique and not to be confused with other comparable keyboard instruments. Especially the drum pattern played a big role in the releases. Carola accompanies Tom to this day, however, she was particularly frequently used in THE PERC MEETS THE HIDDEN GENTLEMAN. With Carola, the indie radio hit "Rock The Widow" was recorded, and while every live performance from 1987 to 1990, she stood on the stage. But she was also used at the ELECTRIC FAMILY and most recently at SUN TEMPLE CIRCUS. This compilation presents a rich selection of titles coined by Carola. "Rock The Widow" is available in two versions (Studio & Live), but also rare songs can be found here, which are documented as usual in every Electric Kindergarten edition. Long live Carola!
