Agatha - LP

Band:Verneri Pohjola & UMO Jazz Orchestra
Album:Agatha - LP
Label:SVART
Format:Vinyl LP
Genre:JAZZ/JAZZ ROCK

Kerkko Koskinen’s musical visions have always been ambitious. When he put together what was to become th e
most popular rock/pop band in Finland in the 1990s, Ultra Bra, the instrumentation of a standard band was just not
enough. In addition to four vocalists, the 13 member band included a horn section, two percussionists, and a largescale
string assembly, used in the band’s recordings. Striving to create a “big” sound has always been present
in Koskinen’s production, and finally, with Agatha, he has found the orchestra to match his musical vision: a worldclass
big band, Umo Jazz Orchestra, and a world class soloist, trumpetist Verneri Pohjola. Koskinen and Pohjola’s musician personas complement each other in a way that inevitably brings to mind one of the most legendary composer soloist partnerships in the history of jazz: that of Gil Evans and Miles Davis. Just like Davis created a humane, accessible instrumental contact surface to Evans’ architectural arrangements, Koskinen’s rich and full orchestration is balanced by Pohjola’s trumpetism, full of contrast and intimacy. Vinyl LP.

Harvest Time [VINYL]

Band:Elonkorjuu
Album:Harvest Time [VINYL]
Label:SVART
Format:Vinyl LP
Genre:Metal

Fully authorised reissue! Perhaps the most expensive and sought after Finnish cult item, original copies of this 1972
album change hands for four figure sums. In comparison with bigger local prog acts of the time, such
as Wigwam and Tasavallan Presidentti, Elonkorjuu were louder and heavier, combining Canterbury influences with
Cream/Z eppelin style hard rock. The band later evolved into a jazz‐rock act but the first album is full‐blown guitar oriented
progressive hard rock. Vinyl LP Reissue.

Bunker Sessions

Band:Strobe
Album:Bunker Sessions
Label:SULATRON RECORDS
Format:cd
Genre:Kraut / Space Rock

Strobe formed in 1990 and played their first gig in November of that year at a local pub in Hitchin, just north of
London. In 1991, after a great live review by the Melody Maker, they started releasing several albums on different
labels. In 1994 Strobe decided to record an album with a ‘live’ feel. They recorded this material at the Bunker Studios in
Bedford. It was recorded in one session in an empty rehearsal totally live with no overdubs. It is more representative
of the band’s sound than any of their studio albums. We at Sulatron love the raw sound, the 3-Guitar-lineup, the catchy melodies and the great atmosphere in the music and recordings in general. This Album was never released before!
CD comes in Jewelcase.

zone six

Band:ZONE SIX
Album:zone six
Label:SULATRON RECORDS
Format:cd
Genre:Kraut / Space Rock

Zone Six got founded in august 1997, which is a funny story: Dave (also known as Sula Bassana) got a concert
request for Liquid Visions; but for this band it was not able to play the show. So Dave had the idea to form a new
band just for this – Zone Six. The idea behind was to play long tranceful spacerock improvisations. Dave formed the band out of Hans-Peter (guitarplayer of Liquid Visions) on guitar, Claus (who was playing the drums in Liquid Visions shortly before) on drums and himself on bass. The tracks were recorded, in the rehearsal room of the companioned band The Butlers, within one night on 8-track compact tapes. The 3-4 following days, Dave mixed and produced the sessions and recorded some overdubs and interludes in his little home-recordingstudio, and after that, all the material got jointed and this album was born.
Of this material, there was a mega-small tape-edition, which was made for the first show in the beginning of
september 1997. 1998, the music got supplemented by vocals and released as the today known debut album via Ealry Birds records, only on CD. Sold out since many years. The native version without the vocals, which was not really released before (except those very few self-released tapes in 1997), is now released via Sulatron Records, according to the band’s 20 years anniversary on CD

Liberation Time

Band:Brain Damage Meets Harrison Stafford
Album:Liberation Time
Label:JARRING EFFECTS
Format:cd
Genre:Reggae/Dub/Ska

To gain some grasp of the genesis of this new project, that may seem surprising at first, let’s address what both artists have in common, rather that what differentiates them. Internationally recognized masters in the styles, respectively reggae & dub, that they are developing in parallel for almost 20 years, without never really meeting each other, the two protagonists strive to challenge their codes in an ever greater respect to their Jamaican roots: two decades furthering a relentless fight against musical orthodoxy, to the benefit of interbreedings that have always been major contributions to music — and arts in general — History. This is evidenced by jazz and Jamaican traditional music fusion in the case of Harrison Stafford, and notably with his amazing adventure with Groundation, as well as by Martin Nathan countless experimentations, over Brain Damage prolific discography, always digging in more unlikely and audacious directions. From this unexpected collaboration will stem « Liberation Time » album, an LP that will delight many fans of the two artists’ works, all what builds their respective uniqueness being there so well intricated. Harrison Stafford unique voice supports, in a most elegant way, the delivery
of a uniting message focused on self-empowerment through music and his universalist vision of Rastafarian faith. Brain Damage writing and production, on the other hand, appear always more subtle and personal, intellectualized yet visceral. Solid compositions, hit melodies and classy dub effects are among assets that will undoubtedly confirm « Liberation Time » as one of the most accomplished collaboration project of this year.

MCKENNA MENDELSON BLUES

Band:MCKENNA MENDELSON BLUES
Album:MCKENNA MENDELSON BLUES
Label:LION PRODUCTIONS
Format:Vinyl LP
Genre:Blues

Another great album from Canada's legendary Paragon label, a set of super bluesy psych demo tapes from 1968.
The band's album "Stink" was received not just as a great album of electric blues, but as some sort of revelation when it appeared in the second half of 1969. But lead guitarist Mike McKenna had spent time ('67 to'68) in the Ugly Ducklings, and had already developed a 'local hero' tag by playing hard electric blues as a member of the legendary Luke and the Apostles.
Together, he and Joe Mendelson made arrestingly earthy music, which soon attracted another of Toronto's rock gods of the day, bassist Denny Gerrard from the Paupers, whose legendary talents had served him well on the stage of the Monterey Pop Festival, where his work with the Paupers was (and still is) considered a highlight. The material included on this disc, rough
and searing demo material, is arguably even more rare and interesting than that on their classic McKenna Mendelson Mainline "Stink" album.
